    Your right I should.

Hot car either way. Did you take it around the block? Was that the one getting painted in the back a while ago?

I drove the yellow one (they say it's faster for some reason). Getting my tall ass in there was pretty rough btw. And yes, it was in the shop for paint not too long ago. Mariano, I will let him know you think his car is teh shizzy. Why don't you come down and tell him yourself over some beers!

I used to work on Lotus's, and one of our customers had a series 1 just like that one. I does indeed have a Honda Type R motor.
Here's how it works: The cars were shipped to the states with no engine. There was a company in SoCal I think that took the cars and dropped in the Type R motor. The cars are then sold and registered as a "kit car" which eliminates the need for smog checks.

Interesting, the Type R units had to be loads more fun that the Rover K's.

Have you got any idea how many were brought into the US, couldn't have been too many.

That's the cool thing about these, they aren't registered as "kit" cars. They are full fledged street legal autos. Like i said, I don't know how he did it, but he did. He also has an old Mini, that is post banned in the us that is street legal as well, it's an 89 or a 90...

I wish I had a pic of the vespa they just finished restoring.

Don't know how many there are driving around this side of the pond.

The company that does the conversions is called Sunspeed. http://www.suninternational-usa.com/

After looking at their site it looks like they also offer a diy kit.

A lot of Minis are LHD. It just depends what country you get it from. Import it from Germany for example and you get a LHD one. Import from England, and you get a RHD one.

Thats just a first gen elise, they all came with the Type R motor, you can buy them and have them registered in the US just like a skyline/silvia/mini etc...

The rare part is, that he has the first gen one, not to many of those around! I know of one other one, near where I live!

Dont believe that was a first gen Elise. There where many more before that body style.

Wrong. They didn't come with a HONDA motor at all. And no you can't buy them and have them Reg'd in the US as easily as you think. Reason being they are non-airbag cars that cannot be dot approved. These are registered as kit cars I have come to find out.
