i was talking to my dad about why my car shifts so hard and he says that the previous owner installed a shift kit or modified the valve body most likely, so i guess thats why my car can squeek the tires into second, or kill me when it shifts while turning. and yes i will eventually have a 5-speed.

More likely the tranny is beginning to fail.

but its been 4 yrs(25,000miles) of hard(Hard as in strong) shifting, and the fluid looks fine. the previous owner took great care of the car.

I doubt the autobox mods. It's old. Just because the fluid looks good means a whole mound of nothing.

You should go over to the 5 speed conversion thread, and start collecting the little bits you'll need in the meantime(Pedal box, shifter/linkage, flywheel w/ clutch kit, New mounts, etc.) order them new, or, from the yards in Northern Ca, so shipping isn't much of a bitch. Then the last thing you need when your trans finally dies is an 5 speed transmission.

Unfortunately it sounds like he (P.O.) got ridd of his problem by selling to you.

The (transmission) issue was probably the reason for sellin.

None of us would really sell our e30's if it wasn't for an expense that seems like it's too much for a 20yr old car, or may has already been done and didn't help much!..............just my $0.02 ;)

sounds good too bad i'm broke, college costs too much, and i'm only going part-time. maybe my tranny will make it another 4 yrs. yesterday i was making a "carbon fiber" heatshield and when i was molding it, it shattered and that stuff was expensive.

i really don't see why you guys think spinning the tires into second is a problem, when i said hard shifting I didn't mean it has trouble shifting it just likes to squeakthe tires when it shifts(or break necks).i also read something over on e30tech about drilling holes into the valve body to get harder shifts (maybe my cars PO was cheap) i mean he did put blue window tints on the car.

Dude, you know people have done the 5 speed swap in an afternoon at a cost of ~500.00, dont fret, that's why I said gather it slowly. 20.00 here, 50.00 there, and you'll have it ready.

okay, thats the way to do it, also my dad wants to start getting other e30's and either parting them out (if they don't run) or if they are just ugly fixing them up and selling them, so i may have some good parts in my future for a 5-speed, he also wants to make a rally car.

There you go, you can buy a 500.00 parts car, snag all the 5 spped stuff, part the rest, make 750.00, and be 250.00 up AND have a macco resprayed 5 speed.;)
