You guys are really going to hate me now (Alpina Content)
Wow, sanding those stripes off must have been mentally hard :(
Post more progress pics!
Ask and you shall recieve. Just took these. The Hartge is all primed and I'll start blocking on it soon. I do have a guy who already came out and traced my stripes for the car. He will have them ready to go when I am.
I just did an oil change on the Alpina and it was the first time I have really driven it since I got it. What a fun car! It feels nearly as fast as the M6 but it doesn't make a big production of it like 6er did. Nice smooth power and a calm but great sound. I'm surprised by how small it feels. The PO told me he weighed the car and it was only 2800 lbs. It feels like it! I love the way the seats feel, I love the gearbox, I love everything! I can't wait to get it all dialed in. Next summer will be fun!
Aren't you going to have a hard time blending that spot together where the existing paint ends on the Hartge car?
If you are referring to the pillar that goes to the roof, naa. I have one of the best painters in the biz on my side. You'll never notice. I am just painting the side of the car for now though. The color match won't be 100% but the average eye will never notice. I'm planning on painting the rest of the car sometime this winter. I just want it to be "not wrecked" anymore, its my DD. I am buying enough paint to spray the entire car, so matching it later won't be an issue. I'd like to get both of the cars looking good and driving well so I am doing it in stages. I bought a gallon of Glasurit 285-60 primer which should get me through both complete cars. I plan on using Glasurit products all the way through both projects. This stuff is far from cheap and I am not rich! I wish I could afford to just tear down both cars and go to town but I just can't afford it. Baby steps.
It's a shame that Alpina is so beat, how could anyone let such a rare car deteriorate like that?
Its not that bad really. I'm glad it is as rough as it is. I couldn't even dream of affording what a mint one of these would cost. I'll bring it back to life!

I Can't wait.
My friend Tim had a car IDENTICAL to yours only it was pristine. We took it out once on a cool november night after a local CCA meeting, he said the cool air was making it run just exponentially better, the ride gave me goosebumps

Tim Jones? I have been talking quite a bit to Mike who bought Tim's car. It is an inspiration to me for sure! Beautiful!
Do you know how many more of the Hartge and Alpina like yours were produced?
Well, posterity, you will never know what it cost us to preserve your freedom. I only hope that you will make a good use of it. If you do not, I shall repent in heaven that I ever took half the pains to preserve it.
Nicademus, Nobody can give me official Hartge numbers. I have read the built 12 or 23 H23s. Those numbers could be completely wrong. Performance Plus imported 5 to the US. How many are left today? Who knows. Not many.
There were 500 Alpina B9s built. Mine is number 95. I believe, including mine, there are 4 or so E28 B9s in the states. Maybe a couple more in collections hidden away.
I'm glad you have these cars because you'll actually use them instead of hiding them away from the world in some mammoth garage. Now I regret not buying the Hartge even more. I love the color of it too (reminds me of another car I used to own). I should have sold my damn lexus and bought up the Hartge and then restored it. Blah, ok ok enough shoulda woulda coulda :)

Haha well thank you. Not a whole lot to update. The whole drivers side of the Hartge is all fixed and in primer. I would like to have the whole car completely resprayed within the next couple of months. The Alpina is on the back-burner until I get the Hartge more squared away. Unfortunately Im not rich so this stuff moves kinda slow. I'll update again soon I promise!
