I HATE driving in snow. I won't do it. My boss gets so mad at me because she has to get out of her nice warm house into her nice warm Mercedes SUV to come and get me. I REFUSE to drive in the snow.

One to many scary, close calls, and I know HOW to drive in the snow. I just never learned how to drive a FRIGGIN BOBSLED(which is how I affectionatly refer to my E30 during the winter) I was given some pointers after my second and last horrible expirience....

...2 inches on the road, it had just started falling, I am driving down rte 66 4 lanes all to myself, not speeding, about 35 mph in a 55. All of a sudden, I start to fishtail, I am not sure why, I am certain I did something wrong, but not sure what. Luckily like I said, I knew enough to let of the gas and not slam on the brakes, and how to handle the car and get it going the other way, BUT unfortunatly, it was SO slippery, all my car did was fishtail from one end to the other, and back again, 5 times, across 3 lanes of traffic and back, finally ending up 1 foot away from the cement wall when I felt I could finally apply the break to stop. I was scared to death. I have NO idea how the car went from one side of the highway to the other, but it did. I can't BELIEVE that there wasn't a SINGLE SOLE on the road with me when that happend. NO ONE in sight. Had there been anyone, it would have been a HUGE, HUGE wrek. Right after, I got myself going again, about 10 miles and hour w/ hazards, trying to stay calm. I stayed in second, now I know I should have been in a higher gear as well at that point, so I would have had less power available. As soon as I got myself on the road at 10 mph again, there were people ALLL around me. I felt so blessed to have had it happen when it did, and not 30 seconds later.

BUUUUT I still refuse to drive in the snow. REFUSE!!! Scared to death might be more accurate.

Just so every one knows what a puss I am... lol!!

My girlfriend at the time drove off the highway during a blizzard here in Georgia. Then again I can't blame her. She was riding on Kumho 712's and those aren't the best in snow. It isn't worth having snow tires in GA because it snows here once every few years and not usually enough to stick to the ground. I would have recommended she not drive but it snowed while she was at work so she had no choice.

I wanted to buy snow chains, because, well, that is what we did in colorado! EVIDENTLY they are illegal here in VA, as well as studded snow tired.

So I drove around all winter and early spring with 100lbs of balast in my trunk. I KNOW I didn't need that much, but I was trying to overcompensate.

              :)

Set of snow tires and 100 pounds of sand in the trunk. I've never had a single problem with an e30 in the snow after 5 years on that setup. For the meager amount of snow that NoVa gets, studless snow tires work fine.

Swing wild, brake later, don't apologize.
