Looks pretty solid man, I've always been a fan of round-headlamp A1's. I have heard good things about the 16V swap, everyone seems to have their own opinion about the maintenance involved with a typical 16V, but they seem like good motors nonetheless. Is there much of a weight difference from 8V to 16V?
I love the euro bumpers too btw. Long or short taillamps?
The previous owner of my car recently picked up a little ITB-spec A1 race car with a JH 1.8L 8V. Techtonics 4-to-1 race headers, lightweight flywheel, lots of polyurethane bushings, removeable Kirk cage, etc. He said it's a blast around the auto-x course, I don't doubt that one.
there is almost no weight difference in the swap, it is essentially the same motor as the 8valve, but if i were to put a 16 valve head on my old eight valve the compression would have been 13:1 iirc haha. the motor is A LOT of fun in this car, and the maintenance doesn't really bother me. with the original CIS i can rev to just over 7500 too.
It s a Long tail light car, it's an 84 GTI

ahh ok. I was wondering b/c I have an old acquaintance who is in philly kind of in the VW scene. His name is Shane and he is affiliated with Sub Zero skate shop. Good dude, he was more into racing them when I hung out with the Sub Zero team (@ 1994). I thought there might be a chance you knew him.
