    Euro Slice... 1985 323i

I figured I'd post this here as my introduction, since I just recently joined, and get some thoughts on the purchase I made.

It all started about 5 months ago when I was looking for a new daily driver so I could really tear my sorta-project car apart. That turned into getting the sorta-project somewhat reliable. After that, I decided I wanted a dedicated track car. I had been looking for a new car to mess around with, auto-x, drag race, sno-cross, etc. I just also happen to have a buddy that wanted the same thing(cheap track car). We decided to just go halvsies on something.

We searched the classifieds and just so happens this car was listed for sale on the local craigs list for $995(advertised as 325i).

We negotiated, and picked it up for less then asking price. It runs and drives well, just needs some small items and basic maintenance. Plans for this car are not real set in stone, it all depends on how much of my funds I want to pour into this car. Most likely will be to essentially strip the interior, trunk and engine bay, remove a/c(still works!), and heater controls, gut the dash, then do some basic suspension and brake work and maybe try to beef up the 2.3L, but most likely swap it out for something.

I'll be making a project thread in the proper forum and we are gonna try to get most of the work done over the winter and have it trackable by May 2009.

I don't have many pictures yet, but I'm working on them...

It has a few surface spots but nothing serious... Also we got it far below the asking price because of the circumstances of the car. It has no record of being titled in the US. It was driven and registered illegally for some time. We picked it up for $422 after tax. :D

Nice find. I'f I'd have known about it, I would have flown up and driven it back to Indy for that price ;). I have a thing for gray-market stuff.

Nice pick up. definately a great price. I've always wanted to find a gray market E30 just because of all the Euro goodies it comes with.

Looks like a good start to something cool.

I'll trade you a set of stock weaves for your stealies, I love those things.

Nice man, I'm headed up to Eau Claire for thanks giving. I know the guys in Milwaukee get together now and then. It would be cool if we could all meet at some point. Road America would be a nice venue.

Skota, do you ever make it up to eau claire for the autocross events? the 323i is sure to be out there next year. There are two events, one in the early summer and one in the fall. Also are you on ecscc.com/forum ??

If I can find a title to this thing, I'm sure Jeff(buddy that went 1/2sies on it with me) and I would be down for a meet, even in Madison or something..

What is the FMV on bumpers like these? I'd like to get a bit more aggressive "body kit" for it, but I'd also like to keep these euros for backups as well...
