There are two different materials we are talking about

houndstooth looks like this:


Now, YES houndstooth is made out of the material cloth. BUT in E30's a pattern used to make seats was called cloth. It was also made out of cloth, but was checkered print. It looked like this:


see the difference? The houndstooth has pointy things and the cloth has squares.
