those are no e21 recaros... those are vw corrrado recaros. i bought them from someone who had them in his corrado.

those are very nice but the bolsters are much more aggressive than e21 recaros. ive seen those seats before, some with controls in the seat bolster but dont know what they are from. a 6er?

while I will agree those look very similar, the mounting system is very different between the 3 point VW style mount the 4 point base on the E30.

What was done (if anything) to mount the seats into an E30?

you'll need only some recaro e30 brackets. i bought this seats with vw brackets and only changed them.
