Newman, you never cease to amaze me. I think you should get bored and do a race gas tune.

I'm just gonna make this easier on my by quoting what my friend posted in his blog:

After checking to make sure the car was running as I left it, I started bringing the wastegate duty cycle up until the boost went over the 8 psi wastegate spring pressure. As the boost started to go up it was clear that I would be able to achieve Neman's goal of 450 whp on 93 octane with no external injection.

Here's a graph showing some of the pulls during the tuning process. I've chosen these ones since they're close to the boost levels we decided on for the boost by gear setup I've calibrated via the ViPec standalone ECU.

After the pull to 449 whp shown above Newman and I decided we had to go a bit further to break the 450 whp barrier. I knew there was a good amount of room left to grow so I bumped the boost up a bit and made a small timing adjustment which resulted in a pull that I aborted because the car spun the tires hard on the dyno.

After adding some weight to the trunk and adding some volunteer "passengers", we were able to get a pull in with less wheelspin. You can still see when it spins going into boost in the following video:

    low quality youtube video:

And here's the graph of the high pull in the video:

After dyno tuning was complete, I set up gear calculation and then boost by gear which is now set to provide 12 psi in 1st and 2nd gear, 16 ish in 3rd gear, 22 ish in 4th and a little more in 5th gear. In the future if Newman adds a wheel speed sensor on a non driven wheel I can set up active traction control for him uses % slip calculation based response to get the most performance out of the available traction.

I will when I get them... The 500 hp curve looks a little weird because we spun on the dyno a bit... The torque curve on the 23psi pull is a lot better...

Right now we set up boost by gear so it makes 12psi in 1 & 2, 16 psi in 3, and 21 psi in 4 & 5... It still spins a bit at like 120 or 130, so I don't wanna throw much more at it til I get a Mickey Thompson street radial on there...

Haha, I know. In an autocross though, high-hp turbo motor throttle response and powerband, while great to wind out under normal circumstances, aren't that great. If you were to keep it in the powerband you'd be shifting like a madman (probably into first a few times), and a lot of the time you wouldn't be going fast enough to get any traction.

Post up a dyno, I'd like to see the powerband shape.

It's not THAT peaky... Full boost at 4500 and redline at 8000...

But I will probably never go to an autoX course anyway... maybe watkin's glen...

Yeah, 500whp peaky powerband E30 wouldn't be that great at an autocross. But it would own at a track.

Seriously, if you don't track this car you're a douche.

495whp/400ft-lb at 25.5psi... On a mustang dyno... that's enough for pump gas I think... :) More later...

She'll be alright. If my buddies honda on stock internals running 7psi took 18psi yesterday when the wastegate got stuck, your car will be all good.

Holy shit did that thing haul ass mid pull when it got stuck, I knew something was wrong lol.

I think it would be cool to take this on the track.

Some guys do things just to make other people cringe. Engineer Christian Newman decided to do it with an eye-searingly greenish-yellow, carbon-fiber and kevlar-infused E30 BMW with a transplanted Nissan GT-R straight six. His reward? Scorn, and 286 WHP.

    lawl.
