The ignition kept acting up on me. I've also been hearing about a lot of AEM hardware failures and it's making me nervous...

Good call on the AEM. I wasted an unreal amount of time and money screwing around trying to run one on my race motor. On my 3rd attempt to send it back for service I ordered a DTA S80 at nearly half the cost of the original AEM. The DTA setup easy and worked absolutely perfect! I traded the AEM for a set of tires after not being able to sell it.

Did you ever consider an Electromotive? They're pricey and not plug an play but they are good units. My brother ran one on his RX-7.

I've been looking at the photo of your car on the trailer, I think it would look good with body color flares instead of black.
