i bet they grip like hell in the dry now. even more than when new, i mean.
Strict budget, slow restoration. *Now with moar budget*

Actually no, they are not like RA1s and grip down to the cords. These rears are gone and the fronts still have tread (I had my reasons for not rotating them) and the car will tend towards oversteer if I really push it in a turn.
Unfortunately the Tire Rack has RS3s on backorder (2 months whereas I need tires in a week), so I may have to run a ghey "staggered" fitment with 225 RS3s and 205 XS for now (not going to pay for 225/45 R-comps to daily on yet). Too bad, I really liked those 225s.paint sucksComment

D'oh.
If it makes you feel any better, I put my Starspecs on in May, and they're just about gone as well. :(

Good work. ;) One of these was flat spotted, and my rear alignment was crap, so it's to be expected. The fronts still have some life left in them. We should go on a drive soon.
Balleristic--they are awesome, but they don't last very long. 225/45 is a great size for the 15x8 C1, unfortunately they won't be in stock at TR for another 2 months or so or else I would have gotten another set.paint sucksComment

Flat spots are such shit. I have some KDW TA/2s that are flat spotted from e-braking at the skidpad. Horrible to drive on now, heh.
What would you set the rear at if you were to align it? Right now I'm at -2.5camber with toe as neutral as the alignment guy could get it. (Slightly toed in on the right side, though.)
And agreed. I'll be up in Willows this weekend doing the Gymkhana event, but you NEED to drive my car with the built LSD, it's pretty insane. My tires are gone from 60MPH hairpins. :-x

awesome thread!!
reading through it reminds me of my 10+ years of effing around on e30s... mostly in school parking lots or on the street with a stupid low budget.. running on summer tires. crazy times :)Comment

Yeah it has pretty much vibrated my fillings loose. Looking forward to a smooth ride again.
I am going to go for 2.5 or so up front and 1.5 in the rear, camber wise. Toe ideally will be on the neutral side of factory spec. What would you set the rear at if you were to align it? Sounds good, just keep in mind I may want to kill you for it. :pAnd agreed. I'll be up in Willows this weekend doing the Gymkhana event, but you NEED to drive my car with the built LSD, it's pretty insane. My tires are gone from 60MPH hairpins. :-xpaint sucksComment

Gotcha. I'm running 2.0 up front and 2.5 in the rear, so not that far off.
No killing me. :( Have you driven a car with a Z3 rack yet? 'Cos it's got that, too. :p

Steps to facepalm
1: reluctantly order Kumho XS instead of Hankook RS3 from tire rack due to huge backorder on RS3s
2: look around for place to mount and balance Kumhos for a reasonable price
3: find Hankook tire dealer 5 miles from your new residence

Oh well. At least my next pair of RS3s is going to be $240 installed.
For the lulz I rotated them at a mall since they put the smaller tires on the rear

205/50 Kumho XS on top, 225/45 Hankook RS3 on bottom

New mad tyte STAGGERRRRREEED fitment omfg check out that fucking streeetttccchhh 205 on a 15x8 hellaflush!!11

Impressions so far are that the XS feel a little more nimble (better in transitions, less clumsy) than the RS3s, likely mainly because they are a bit narrower and the sidewalls are reinforced better by the slight stretch. But they do not have the same immense grip of the RS3s, although they are close. I am going to pull camber out of the rear and add a little to the front and then play with the adjustable sway bar if I feel it still understeers.Last edited by Wh33lhop; 07-27-2011, 11:19 PM.paint sucksComment
