12psi is fun :) I set it at that for a couple of runs just for s's and g's. I couldn't run it up all the way since my injectors were at 84% duty cycle at around 4300rpm, but it was still alot of fun. I think I'll stick where mine is at though until I upgrade to bigger injectors. 9.5psi is still pretty fun.
BTW fresh motors FTW. Mine's not super fresh, but only 45000 since rebuild. Oh, what do you mean compressor maps? Most turbos run 80-90% efficiency don't they?

Not to hijack, but would you tune that at home?I'm so keen for you to get to a dyno now, that sounds great! As a base I'm shooting for 12psi with a fresh engine and studs, not sure if I'm going to o-ring it yet though.
Did you manage to find any compressor maps for your turbo? would be interesting to see what sort of efficiency your at.
You're in Newcastle, right?Leave a comment:

LOL... let me recover a little bit financially and the first stop will be to the dyno for base run and tuning. A buddy (older gentlemen w/ loads of exp) estimates I'm over 200rwhp easily now. So as long as his butt dyno holds out I'll be a happy man.
Thanks to everyone for the comments. I'll work on getting a vid up for you guys as soon as the weather clears up. Been daily'ing it and so far so good :fingers crossed:. Haven't run into any issues yet except cold start, but that's because the megasquirt has not been tuned for cold days yet. In texas we just got our first set of cold days below 90 degrees!!!Leave a comment:

this is a great build! I'm planning my build for next year right now and you've been a great help! I'm looking to keep my AC as well, can you pm me the models for both the main EFan and the 10" AC fan that you used! Thanks!Leave a comment:

Well... she is DONE!!! And the totals are in... GRAND total = $2147.23.
Like I said, "semi budget." I knew I was going to spend extra money like the hot coatings and stuff like that to make it a clean and "kit" looking install. I hope I accomplished that.
Though I did get a great deal on the BIG dollar main components, it's the little things that add up very quickly. I still think that dollar/hp ratio is pretty good and if I get 200rwhp out of it I will be 10000000% satisfied. If you were to buy a complete turbo kit with manifold, engine management, turbo, tune, every line/fitting/gauge, etc... it would easily run $4000+ so I think I still made out pretty well. Also sold my reground cams and chip for $200 so that helped offset costs a little.
Here is EVERYTHING that was purchased including tools that I didn't have/couldn't find but needed:
Turbo (Mitsu Starion) w/ Internal Wastegate and Actuator
Manifold
AEM UEGO Wideband Controller
VDO Boost Gauge
Air Intake Temp Sensor
Plug n Play Megasquirt
Oil Feed Line
Oil Pan w/ Turbo Drain Tapped
Silicon Intake Elbow
Valve Cover Gasket
Oil Pan Gasket
Oil Filter
Hot Coating for hot side of turbo, manifold, and downpipe
10" Electric Fan to replace stock AUX fan for AC

Blow off Valve
Intercooler
Intercooler Piping Kit

Serial Cable (for Megasquirt)
3 Circuit Harness (for wiring of 10" fan)
Rubber reducers (only 1)
Snap Ring Pliers Set
Downpipe Flange
Oil
Paint
Gasket Scraper
Breather for ICV

XXR (sportmax) 501 16x8's. PPL can say what they want, but they fit the car nicely and aren't that heavy for their size. Running 215/40/16's all the way around.

Thanks I appreciate all the comments after all the hard work and $$$ that has gone into it.Last edited by Schnitzer318is; 09-20-2009, 10:48 PM.Leave a comment:

Done... Finally!!!!!!!
Thanks, and will post the msq after I get it dyno tuned. My tune is ok but I'm sure I'm leaving hp on the table as my AFR's are not as smooth as they should be. Have it at a dead 10psi right now and I think I am going to leave it there. Hoping for 200rwhp after all is said and done. :fingers crossed:
I took out my oil pressure sender (stupid OEM idiot light, if this comes on your engine is toast anyway) and took it to a hydraulics shop. Also took the oil feed line and the oil pressure sender. Told them I needed a short hose (~1ft) that screwed into the stock oil pressure sender spot and then a T fitting to accommodate the oil feed and sender unit. They hooked me right up. If you can't find anything let me know and you can paypal me and I'll get the shop that did mine to make you one.
Thanks, I am particularly happy with the gauge/switch holders. They actually fit quite nicely with the car even with the black speaker box covering.
Thanks, I actually took 2 trophys today at a local car show. Guess they felt sorry for me :)
The car actually came out really nicely and I am extremely happy with both the fit and the finish now. I am about to total up ALL of the receipts. Will post that later. Below is a completed pic of the car ready for the show. Also shows my awesome wife finishing up after 6 hours cleaning the interior... lol she said she is not cleaning it again until next year. ;) I love my wife. Interior is CHERRY now, literally... not joking. At least we got to do it all in an air conditioned garage... yep, it has central air.

At the show: (not my pic, sorry for small size)
