Cant wait to see this done. Absolutely love the e46 so I've got a good feeling about this one.

To be honest, everything has helped to refine the steering - nothing really stands out in my mind. The coilovers provide a good manageable amount of shock travel, which is probably the most important thing on a 'race car'; sway bars stiffen it up in the corners, especially high speed; steering rack and tie rods just tightened everything up about 15%.

Never heard of someone dong a steering rack conversion on an e46, or are you talking about converting away from an overboosted rack?

So I finally got the wiring harness in the mail, I have it laid out across my bedroom floor right now. Here's my info on the wiring details:

3. rear coolant temperature sensor (Gauge Sensor) BRN/YEL BRN/VIO
4. crank position sensor YEL
5. cam position sensor YEL RED/WHT BRN/ORG
6. VANOS solenoid RED/WHT GRN/BLU
7. knock sensor, 1-3 BLK NCA DME PIN 70
8. knock sensor, 4-6 BLK NCA DME PIN 69
9. throttle position sensor (TPS) BRN BRN/BLK RED/YEL
10. intake air temperature (IAT) sensor BRN GRY

Should have something done by Friday!

Also, see the round plug with silver ring inside? I was under the impression that this was an auto-only connector, but I guess this harness was from an OBD1 325is 5sp. Confirmed this several times with the guy I bought the harness from... the connector only has 4 pins wired.

Overboosted, yes i think that my car does have too much assist. I tried doing homework on the situation, but my e30 project took precidence. E46's went through some revisions in there racks, on early models right? Mine is a 2000 323i, and realoem.com shows different pipes available that bolt directly to the rack, are you familiar with this?Supatek -noun - your basic know it allComment

Sad knock sensors... both are broken like this. Does this matter? I broke them taking the harness out, didn't unplug the connectors and yanked on them, guess they're fragile. Shit.
But at least I got the harness out!
