New beginnings... a tale of a $650 eta

    Hey all,
I figured that since this is my 4th project e30, I might as well make a project thread about it to document its progress. I picked up a 1985 325e from a local fellow who though it was an utter piece of crap with no chance of being saved, hence the $650 price tag. I drove it home 2hrs with no problems whatsoever, it actually rode smoother than the e36 that I drove there to get it ;) My first e30 was an e, then I had an auto i which I 5spd swapped and then m52/zf swapped and sold to tabasco (on the boards here) in partial trade for an 89 is. Here are pictures of the i and is.

Anyways, here is what the e looked like the day I picked it up:

Cleaned out all the old interior to make room for a fresh tan leather sport interior:

    whats to come....

    New interior:

Starting to gather parts to clean up the motor:

When I purchased the car, the synchro for 1st gear was shot. What it actually felt like to me was that a tooth was missing altogether, so I got another tranny, clutch, flywheel, 3.25lsd, etc to put in and replace the old tranny and 2.79 peg leg diff. In the process, we got another parts car in the garage that had weld-in subframe camber/toe adjusters so I took that subframe as well and am currently doing poly-bushings for it. While the tranny was out, I decided to just pull the motor to clean everything out because I tend to be a bit O.C.D. about such things. Pics will be uploaded of the most recent progress soon. Upcoming plans include GC track/school kit, refinish/mount type-a's, exhaust, ellips/HIDs, urethane bushings/new subframe. Mayhem to ensue....

Very nice score. The interior looks tits.

You do know that valve cover won't work with the eta intake right?

If you're referring to the useless bracket that connects to the valve cover from the intake manifold, it doesn't make a bit of difference....

I have a question, I'm in the process of cleaning up a motor as well. What did you use to get the grease and crap off? So Far I've been using a dremel with polishing compound and it's been working well.

I used oven cleaner and a nylon brush. Worked well. I used to have access to a pressure washer which worked even better but not this time...
