Some of you may be bummed to know that this isn't actually a thread about a car getting painted. Being a college student, I had a lack of money and an abundance of time during winter break. Plus my car has extremely nice paint for being original...;) My bedroom at home (as you will soon see) needed an update badly. I don't think I had painted it since 5th or 6th grade, so don't hate on the smiley's! Here are a few shots before I started the "respray."

Told you I needed a change... Yeah, I'm in college... I know.

Okay, first step was to mask the woodwork and primer the walls. The smiley's took a couple coats, everything else took one, which was nice.
Primer:

See the smiley? That needed another coat.
After the primer dried, I put down a coat of a nice light grey. Unfortunately I didn't get any pictures after the grey and before I laid down tape for the stripe. Here's before painting the stripe:

After the tape was on the wall, I filled between the lines with white:

You've probably figured out by now that this has to be somewhat BMW related, which it is, so don't worry. What better to go on that white stripe than a nice tire tread! I went ahead and made a stencil and traced on the walls, then hand painted the lines afterwards:

Hopefully you can see those pencil lines. Once I got dialed in, it actually went pretty fast... I thought that the tread needed something to compliment it, so I decided to try my hand at splatter painting. Here are the results:

Looks like a scene from Dexter, eh? Well, luckily thats not the only color I splattered... Hopefully a few people are getting where this is going, if not, all will be revealed.
The next step was to start painting the tread while I let the splatter dry to put on the next color:

There is red and purple splatters with the first of the blue portion of the tire tread. Wait, blue, purple, red? Those sound like... ///M colors! Indeed they do.
Here is all three splatters and two of the three tread colors:

Yes, it was a pain to do... But time was what I had, and most of the paint was found in the basement, I think I spent a total of 15 dollars (three $5 sample quarts of the red, blue, and purple). Not quite done yet... Since nothing has been strictly BMW related thus far (a.k.a. normal people wouldn't see those colors and think BMW) I figured it was about time to do something that was (hopefully). I know its not a perfect outline, but for doing it by hand, I thought I did pretty darn well:

I know, I know... "needs a drop"
Close-up of the tread/splatter:

Again, not perfect, but its a solid 2-3 foot job for the untrained BMW/Tire Nerd eye..

Only took a week, including time to recover from wisdom teeth removal! All moved in:

I need to get some matching sheets...
These will be hanging up on my wall soon, beautiful 16x20 prints matted/in nice frames. From my brother for Christmas, probably my favorite gift:

Well, thats it, I hope you enjoyed the read/pics even if it wasn't strictly car-related. Time to go enjoy my new paint job. :)
