super slow eta DD progress thread

After almost 3 years of ownership I am finally getting some progress done. Until now the car has just been beaten on and used as a dd by myself through high school and is now my car in college. being my second car, and first 5 speed I'm learning a lot in my relationship with this temperamental little thing. The point of this car is to just get me through college and save me money by not having monthly payments. I love the little thing and hopefully after college i can restore and bring it back to life the proper way with all the proper components I want. And to sort of give an idea for what I'm after here is a list of the final set up I want done:

    - Black out diving boards, reflectors, signals
    ✔ US ellips w/ 6k 55w HID's, smoked lows, frenched highs
    - late model valence w/ 3k 35w fogs
    - Recaro's recovered in blue houndstooth
    - CF blank door cards.
    - Z4 3.0 short shifter
    - 3.xx LSD (no moar 4.10)
    - small sub
    - IE stg3 springs, billy shocks
    ✔ Volvo Lip

Its had the diving boards tucked up, a couple leaks taken care of, and the useless fog lights taken off. After finally getting a chance to get home and just work on it here is where I begin this afternoon.

I knew there was rust on the rear end and knew that somehow water was getting into the trunk. After I have had my fair share of trouble trying to fix it the ghetto way I've decided to actually take the project head on. Taped it off, sanded and used a wire brush attachment to take off the PO's attempt at fixing it with some rubber stuff. I them sprayed some rust treatment down, and after letting it dry I will just spray paint it flat black to cover it for now.

Now its a waiting game until the rust treatment has cured and I can paint it. Until then its time to attack the trunk, wipe it all down to get the dust off and check voltages out to try and get the tail lights to function properly and consistently again.

I ran out of bandwith on flickr for the month due to other shots I've uploaded, so no pics til later. But the rust is all covered up for now. The focus now is the subframe that needs replacing, and some maintenance. I've fixed the lights that were being stupid, however the panel still says that they are broke, whatever. The leaks in the trunk have been fully taken care of.

I know this probably isn't the best place to ask, but if anyone can get me dimensions on the suspension bushings, motor mounts, and trans mounts I'm going to take a swing at making some here at school before I leave for the summer.

More shots coming after I get some taken here in a few seconds. But this week I picked up a cheap roof rack that I'll be making a fairing and fairing mounts for, and I also picked up a subframe from Dominic49, aka atlanta's e30 drifter. props to him!!! so I'll be welding in some reinforcement plates along with re-painting it after a media blaster is taken to it.

I also finally took the time to do a quick wash and wax on the hood so it looks a little easier on the eyes. I'll be traveling to a local pull-a-part to check out a couple early models to maybe pick up a new front bumper, valence, and some kind of lip, volvo or something.

well, update without pictures for now. I picked up a volvo lip for $7 at the pull-a-part the other day, and found a late model valence for $40. Not super cheap but whatever, hopefully it will be mine soon. I'll update with pics when I get it all installed and some parts VHT's and the bumpers painted flat black w/o the plastic stripping. Ugh I need a drop.

Nice little progress you got going on. More than I've accomplished in the past year, but with work and deployments :(

got a job so cash is coming in, gotta pay insurance first then suspension should be ordered. picked up some us ellips finally, off to get some SEM paint for smoking, as well as taking care of the front end freshen up. direction has changed again....lols, pics later tonight

waiting on the paint to fully dry, and to run to the store tomorrow to pick up the right epoxy to seal them back up. anyone know how to hookup the little vents? or should I just delete them and seal it shut??
