    My $300 ETA

So I was perusing craigslist one day and stumbled upon a listing for an E30 about a mile away from me for $450, Email the guy. He tells me whats wrong with the car. i call him, and HE talks me down to $300...

I ask my parents they say no, they rather have me drive around in an 03 Corolla, I'm going to New England tech in the fall for automotive, I need something to work on. Fuck that. So I bought this(My girlfriend payed for half of it, as a two year anniversary present) as something to restore whilst I'm going to college. Parents still don't know, would register it but i need insurance. So I'll wait.

The car runs and drives, quite well actually. Well Except for a giant exhaust leak, that made driving 30 miles to the two car garage my friend is letting me store it/work on it in scary as hell, in an uninsured, unregistered, uninspected $300 car. Luckily I didn't see a friggin cop on the way up there.

So, this car has a working ODO, 160k on the clock. Leaks Oil, Leaks Power steering fluid, leaks a minuscule amount of coolant, found out tranny output shaft seal is leaking. I think the rear main seal is leaking, causing the clutch to slip. I have a spare clutch off a 88 325i, don't know If I can use it tho? Oil Pan gasket is leaking. I allready ordered a whole bottom end gasket set from Pelican. The first owner apparently hydrolocked the first engine and this si the second one.

Also the guy hit a dear, which is why the hood has a crimp in it, and the passenger fender is flat black.

But, i haven't gotten to the worst. there's a hole in the trunk, I took off the exhaust to get a better look at it, started rubber-maleting away with it and a large amount of rust fell out.pretty much the whole bottom of where the spare tire jack is kept is rusted out.

which caused massive amounts of surface rust in the trunk.

now, how do I go about fixing that hole? Not parting the car out, don't bother asking. No rust in the spare tire well surprisingly.

I have a completely disassembled and cleaned M20B25, should I just throw that in, or should i part it out? The head on it's brand new...and I've got the tranny to go with it.

One last thing, Im trying to separate the transmission from the engine, which I presume involves drive shaft removal, now how the fuck do i get to the fucking bolts on the other side of the guibo(Tranny side), I've heard I have to lower the tranny a good two inches, is this true? how do you guise go bout removing it....

    As it sits...

    good day.

You're going to spend more on parts to get that thing looking average than an average looking e30 would cost. At least you'll have an education, good luck.

                        Made moar progress.

-Finally got motherfucking Guibo out, should of used PB Blaster, as one of the guibo bolts rusted itself to the sleeve inside the guibo, making it even moar possible to remove. Can I get rid of that motherfudging metal sheild?

The driveshaft just came out with some WD-40, and a 17mm Wrench

Center console out. The PO of this car kept it horribly dirty, it's truely disgusting, the amount of dirt, dust, and Sand (This guys Last name was Beach afterall) that accumilated in this car.

Also found some hackage, turns out my clutch safety switch was bypassed....

Valve cover needs some loving, along with most of the wiring.

I has a question R3Vlimited dudguys. Do I need to support the engine with a floor jack if I'm removing the tranny? And also, how do i get all that crap off around the shifter to get to the bitch clip?

                        Thanks

I didn't bother supporting the engine while the tranny was out.

you talking about the clip that connects the selector rod to the tranny/shifter? or the little guy right on the end of the tranny that's impossible to get to? my solution was to drop the transmission.. and pull the motor.. and swap M50.. etc.

so basically, don't listen to me =P

reminds me a lot of my car when i bought it, drove it home with bad brakes, uninspected, scary as hell, bought the car with my girl friend when i was in high school. it's almost creepy how similar it is

Oh, Thought you did it from up top.NVM then. I assumed it would be a pain in the ass.

I can discard that metal shield around the guibo right? Its just a pain in the ass in everyway to install/uninstall the guibo while its in there.
