yea; if anyone has any pointers of where to watch out...the frame rails are in awesome shape compared to my old car. I POR15'ed the gas tank because it was rusted on it's entire surface and POR 15'ed the subframe/trailing arms while they were out. I plan on spot treating the rust then re-undercoating the car after I have settled in my new apartment.

Last week during the fiasco... I finished the car and was actually able to move to a new apartment. Here's a pic of the rear the day after FredK and SlapDash dropped by and helped a ton.

Just got 245/35r16 for the 16x8 et23's...it rolls! but engine runs like garbage, cluster doesn't work, mystery wires everywhere and i need to raise the rear a bit (and get aligned).

Anyone have a spare M50 kicking around?

thanks for the compliments folks! I'll ask byron about that motor. I'd need help with wiring but it's def worth a look if it is ready to swap for an e30.

Does anyone have a vacant garage in the RI/MA area that I could borrow to carry a motor swap in the next 2-3 weeks?

Went to FredK's place for a grill & chill. Saw the motor as he did a compression check

Compression (6 turns) - cylinders numbered from front of car to back.
                    #1 180 psi
                    #2 180 psi
                    #3 185 psi
                    #4 180 psi
                    #5 185 psi
                    #6 185 psi

The motor has critical maintenance performed 15k ago and the vanos was rebuilt 6k ago. It's in his daily driver so it hasn't been sitting as a mystery.

                    i'm stoked...S50b30US

Which control arms did you use for the 5 lug swap? Did you have any caster issues/wheel off center in the wheel well issues?

I used 97 e36 M3 control arms with offset m3 bushings. I have the alignment specs somewhere and can post up. IIRC caster was ~9 and change.

I did have some cross camber by almost a degree which points to a different problem.

                        No problems otherwise, drives fine.

Will update soon, planning on getting a motor and swapping some day. Will have more pictures and will try to scan the alignment once I have it tweaked and set up completely.

                        EDIT:
here's how the car sits now, in all it's faded glory. The wheel is as centered as I could ever imagine.

                        97 M3 control arms
                        M3 Offset bushings

not sure if i just missed it but what did you do for 5 lug rear? i have some 17x8 style 5s et20 and i don't want them poking out crazy if i go the e36/z3 route in the rear.. could you take some straight on shots of what the wheels look like stance wise? thanks

correction: i did read past it lol. so you just got 318ti hubs/brakes and put them on your original trailing arms? or did you just use the whole ti setup? your rear doesn't look bad at all as in sticking out.

i was going to do the whole bearing spindle swap on the original e30 hardware, but it would have cost over twice as much as I payed for the ti stuff. I just used the entire trailing arm/hub/brake setup off the ti to get it done fast.

Rear fenders are rolled a bit, fronts are untouched.

It's going to be rainy this week but i'll try to take a pic from the rear and straight on to show caster. Just been busy lately with stuff; i'll try to update more soon
