    Project 275

Tonight I picked up a 1991 318is for $275. All the body panels are stright but the paint could use some help. The kicker is the car runs! He says it idles but wont accelerate. I hope its just a fuel filter. If we can get it running I will put off the M30 swap till the fall..................Pics to follow

          Saturday Night update:
As crazy as it sounds I was able to find a diffrent 1991 318is today, we talked them down to our original price of $275. This one is red, the body is in pretty good shape small dent in the hood and one rust spot. Paid in full and got the title in hand, dont want to deal with that again.

Well we went to pick up the new 318 tonight. Lots of work to do, going to see if we can get it running. Oil looked good and clean. Stopped by the carwash.....

Got some other items in for the project.....

Here are a few other pictures to get this project up to date on our progress.

Here is a shot of the motor, not sure how many miles the bottom end has on it but all the clys look good.

We freshend all the seals on the motor. This is the nut hrom hell! I'm glad we had the 4 X Tq tool.

                Lots of cleaning to do....

                E36 Rack was nasty!

Got the ARP stunds all ready to go. Hope to get the head on this week.

Did I miss something, but I thought this was a 4 banger...unless your doin a swap. None the less, nice score.

The end goal is to do the M30 swap, but we want to see if we can get the M42 running. If we can I will drive it for the rest of the summer and do the swap come fall.

Car looks great, especially for that price. A little spit shine and that paint will look like new! Gotta love those single stage paints. Props on the white block btw! I think I'm going the same way with my M30 swap. It will make spotting leaks very easy.

we powerwashed the ext. and degreased the engine bay yesterday..cleaned up pretty good. J forgot his camera so no pics of that progress yet but i know own the grey 325i that you can barely see in the group shot. I'm getting his m42 goodies when we swap the m30 into the red car to get mine running and eventually will swap a m30 with a snail when the funds are avail.

Edit: so far we only found 1 wire that was chewed through...hopefully it's the one and only.

J we need to mount up your wheels just to see how it looks LOL.

                              6-23 Update
Well sad news, looks like the M42 is shot. I put a new batt in and attempted to start the car,all kinds of bad sounds. I pulled out the spark plugs and tried to turn it over by hand... no go. So it is decided we are doing the M30 swap full bore.

Started to remore items from the motor, I will be putting a lot of this up for sale soon.

Took apart the frount end. Pretty much going to replace everything. I need to get the struts apart and get them ready to send off to Jack at Elephant.

Here are a few shots of the interior... Its not in bad shape. I will keep the seats for now, will replace them down the line with Sparcos. The plan is to strip the interior.

I came home to find this waiting for me...... UUC Kevlar!
