It looks like the vht wrinkle paint didnt set properly in the last picture. I used it on my valve cover and it turned out awesome. Only thing is that it takes forever to set and a lifetime to cure. I left mine it the rafters of my garage for almost a week before it hardened like powdercoat.

Had some time to work on the car this weekend. I felt that it went quite well. I washed down my intake manifold and put new gaskets on it. Routed all of the coolant hoses that are under the manifold. I decided to delete the hoses going to the throttle body. I removed the outlet on the head and put a bolt in its place. I plugged up the spider hose for the mean time with a metal dowel and a clamp. It is way to jerry-rigged for my likings so I will need to figure out some other options.

I didn't like my mounting options for the dipstick, so I am aiming to sketch something up and machine it at my work this week.

Got the wiring started. All the sensors plugged in and sorted a few things out. I am hoping I figure everything out next weekend and then I can get the car started. I am still waiting for my drive shaft to arrive, so I it might be a bit longer still!

Started working today and figured I would get the modification of the steering linkage done. I am planning on not running power steering and the guibo that was stock from the factory really was not going to cut it. I picked up an aftermarket one from I.E. that I believe is made of urethane. I am not to stoked on it, it seems a bit flimsy but I installed it anyways. I went ahead and took down the skematics and drew it up in solidworks, and I plan on machining one out of delrin (or something along those lines) to put in there. This whole modification definitely took way more time than I thought it would, but it is done!







I plan on starting on the wiring this week, and go from there.

Well, just finished of school and am not on summer break. I was expecting to work on the e30 this whole week right off the bat but I ended up getting a new job out at UCSB in the Physics department so I had to work all week. I started to get some real work done on Saturday and got a bit done today. Kind of sucks having to work outside in the strong wind!

I got the differential and all of the rear suspension removed (aside from sub-frame and trailing arms). Put in the new 2.93 LSD, shocks, springs, adjusters, brakes, brake lines, wheel studs and cleaned a lot of stuff. I realized when it came time to fill the diff with some gear oil that I didn't have a pump to get the job done! Went to McGuyver mode and made one out of some tubing and a soap pump.













This is the first time I have seen the car down off jacks in... well months! And definitely the first time I have set it down with all the new suspension. The coils are definitely not dialed in at all. That is going to require some adjustments.

I am planning on finishing off the braking system tomorrow. I am installing a solid steering guibo and then I can install the booster and the remote reservoir for the MC.

Just my luck. I needed to pick up a lower gearing differential for my swap and one came up for sale fairly close to me. Emailed the guy, and before I know it, I was on my way to pick up a good condition 2.93 LSD for 150 bucks. Not to bad. Everything seems to spin freely, and there were no leaks. I took off the cover and cleaned everything up, and pressed in a new bushing.










I also got started on my rear suspension, then became side tracked when I realized I hadn't removed the trunk tar yet. I took it all out with a heat gun, then re-sprayed it black, so it didn't look to bad.







I also took my cluster apart and painted the needles red, and applied that alpina 'style' rev strip thing.
