    1988 Cinnabar 325

I just got another e30. I've been looking for a rust-free body for a while now and finally found one. An 88 325 super eta automatic in Cinnabar red. ~70k on the whole car. Very clean other than a little bit of paint fading, and a rust spot on the sunroof panel. I paid $400. This car will get anything and everything it needs from a wrecked e30 I have, that already was done. I only needed a shell.

The guy I bought it from bought it to build a "race car" but I guess couldn't get the engine running. He did manage to strip everything off of and out of the car though. Oh well, it's all there... mostly. He took the ellipsoid headlights and cut the harness for them. He also cut the carpet out and threw it away. Tan vinyl interior, comfort seats, all in mint condition. I'd like to replace this with a black and grey cloth sport seat interior.

The super eta engine isn't running, for several obvious reasons. Disconnected vacuum lines and problems with the ignition cylinder and maybe switch. It doesn't "click" when turned, thus doesn't turn the ignition on or start. I pulled it out and I don't see a problem. I've never messed with the ignition on my other e30s, so I'm not sure exactly how it should be though. There is also some messy wiring that needs sorting out. Good news is the 885 head has clearly been to the machine shop since it last ran. Spotless and cam looks great. I will check the timing and everything before I run it, because I don't trust any of the work. However, I have another m20 I planned on putting in the car because I wasn't looking for a car with good engine. But I might as well try to work with this one and see what I've got.

Here's a crappy picture from last night. Car looks better in person haha. Plastic bumpers will be on when I find some. Already have 5spd, bilsteins, H&Rs, bushings, sways, yadayada from the other car.

fail on my part. looked at the car in the daylight and tag says 'zinnoberet'. thread title change somehow? dammit.

edit- or double fail? is zinnoberet german for cinnabar? the window sticker and whatnot says cinnabar.

can anyone think of any issues i'll run into swapping an early model m20 into a late model? i've done several swaps, but never had a late model. looks straight forward but maybe i'm missing something.

the brand new head never got a chance to run before it bent valves! :(

compression test showed between 30 and 80psi, pulled valve cover and almost every valve was stuck open. most valves were super super tight, the only valves that had clearance were the bent ones stuck waaay open. too bad, this head has brand new rockers, eccentrics, valves, everything!

oh well... in goes the 731 head eta.
