Volume of the plenum is 1.5x the size of the motor, so it should be just right from what I have read. Throttle body is mounted at a 20º angle in relation to the intake runners.

I also ran the design by my cousin who is a mechanical engineer and used to work for aFe and he seemed to like it.

I'm thinking that too, that factory hole pointed out related to the throttle body looks like a good place to duct a cold side pipe!

UPDATES!

Cut the motor mounts off and plated farther down the frame rail for new ones.


While I had the welder out, I filled a bunch of spot welds and holes.








All sanded smooth.




Here you can see just how deeply dented in some of the factory spot welds are. These will need to be filled a bit more.


Got the motor back in the car and situated where it needs to be.




Body needed to be clearanced to fit the starter.


Lots of room now.








Got this mocked up out of cardboard.




Just clears.


With the fuel rail and injector harness installed.






The hole the intake tubing will pass through once enlarged. You can see the throttle body behind.


From the other side. AFM will be in front of the radiator along with a cone filter.


Next up is welding plate to the notched area to re-box it in. Then need to remake the transmission mount and motor mounts.

Sadly, life has been busy lately and I haven't had any time to work on it. The only thing I've done is get taller jack stands and put them on dollies so I can roll the whole car around in the garage.

Been peeking in on this thread for a while since my biz partner has a 79 roadster with a GM 3500 v6 swap in progress. Well, we picked up a parts roadster last Sept, now this month found a GT! It's frame is rusted, but we have some plans for it :)

Engine back is always a good thing in my book. How is the shifter situation 3 inches back? Seems like you could increase the oil capacity if you wanted to as well.

Shifter is a non issue as I will be making custom linkage and carrier to put it where I want/need it.

Oil capacity is already at 4.5-5 quarts with the current pan, so no need to increase. Not to mention that would be a LOT of work to modify it.

Plates are welded up.


My weld next to the factory weld. Frankly, my weld is better then the factory. Looks like they were more worried about getting the cars finished the quickest, not the best, as the travel speed was too fast resulting in the points in the weld you see. Should be round like mine.


Lots of room now.


Discovered a HUGE problem though.


Steering rack sits right where the front of the crank is.


So, I'm going to have to move the engine back 3 inches. I have the room for it except in one spot.


That corner can easily be removed and plated though. Only thing is, it will remove the mount for the accelerator pedal, so I will have to go to a floor mount of some kind. One thing this does make easier is I can now use the stock radiator and mounts. I was going to convert over to a late model radiator that sat about 6" forward, but that required re-working a lot of sheet metal to make it fit, so as far as work involved goes, I'm pretty much breaking even, despite having to remake engine mounts and stuff.

Last picture is the engine in the car with the intake. This is the first time I've had the intake on with the engine in the car.

Nice progress. Funny your picked up 1" x 0.120 DOM today, I just got my tubing bender die in this morning for that exact size for some extra cage bracing. Great minds think alike.
