    The rebirth of a 318is.

A few months ago, my previous 318is ended up in a ditch after being hit by a truck. It was totaled, but I kept the car because of all the parts that were on it and still usable. I just had to find an e30 shell to put all the parts in.

And then I picked this up Wednesday:

    I've dubbed her Sofia. She's a 91 318is. I'm pretty excited about it.

And then I brought the wrecked 318is back to my house:

    Goals for this weekend:
Get the new shell on wheels and on the ground.
Pull everything out of the wrecked car and get it ready to go to the scrap yard. (I'm sure there will be a for sale thread with stuff that won't be reused on Sofia)

I'm sticking with the m42 for this car. I may continue building my spare m42 for a supercharger like I was before the crash, but I'm more focused on getting body work done and a paint job right now. I want this one to be clean, enjoyable, and reliable when I'm done with her.

So how many cars are in your driveway? I see two E30s at least.

          Viva la m42 !

          Bummer about the accident.
Seems like it would be both fun and bittersweet to swap selected parts from shell to shell - but what are ya gonna do I guess..

Funny - I find myself hoarding old suspension bits and whatnot for just such an occurance. lol

Turbo would probably be easier/get more power in the end than the supercharger, but I like the challenge of designing my own supercharger kit better. And the supercharger whine. I love that sound.

There's only 2 e30s in the driveway, the third is stored at a friend's for now. The car in the garage is a friend's e28.

So I decided to put the GoPro to use and make a time-lapse of what little I accomplished today. I have no video editing skills yet and didn't even know Picasa would make a movie until 15 minutes ago. Enjoy!

A little bit of progress. The last of the old car is going to the recycling place tomorrow. The new car is on all four wheels until I get her in the garage for some body work. That's mainly to appease the neighbors, which were impressed when a little more of the old car was gone each day. Onto some pics of how she currently sits, the final parts of my old car, and the body work I have to look forward to.

Next few garage days are to clean up the disaster of parts, and decide what I'm keeping/selling/trashing. Then I can get back to work on my buddy's 528 that needs some rust repaired before she can be moved from the garage and Sofia moved in.
