It's been a while since my first post, but it took a couple weeks from the time I bought the car until BMW sent a release of interest in it and I could arrange a time to rescue the car from the original owner.
I found this 82k mile car for sale from the original owner on craigslist, and pretty much couldn't resist buying it right there. The guy said it hasn't ran in a couple years, but the oil change sticker on the windshield was from 200 miles ago in 2003, and it was last tabbed in 2004, soo I think it's been sitting for a while.
Check out the delicious tree gunk:

My spoiler is yum.

Are these slanty tips stock? I think they're kinda cool, and I'll probably leave them as long as the muffler works, but something tells me that's aftermarket.

Interior is clean, and there's no rips in the leather. It's suffered a bit of moisture damage, but I think it's going to clean up really nice.

So I cleaned it, scrubbing pretty good with hot water and changing out the water bucket midway through...

aaand it's still dirty. But, not totally filthy and less green. I need more soap.

Waiting on parts that will hopefully arrive this weekend. Going to change every fluid in the car, and do the timing belt and water pump. He told me it ran great, we'll see how true that is. I put a new battery in it and found that neither window nor the sunroof work, the turn signal is broke off and frozen in the right position, and looks like the HVAC isn't operational. Go me. Wipers are working well, though, OBC turns on, and it's got plenty of pretty blinky lights.
My plans are to keep it totally stock for now, since it's unmolested and has low miles. I could almost be tempted into maybe lowering it an inch on some sport springs / dampers, but that's as far as I'd go. I was hoping for an easy restoration, but now that I brought it home and have had time to go through it, it looks like I might end up having to pull the whole interior and jimmy with the electrics a bit, but nothing serious. Pretty pumped to have another BMW, I've been without my old 633CSi for over a year and there just isn't any replacement.
