      This thread delivers!

Thats the way to go, no point in putting in another m50 when an s52 is more power same weight, same effort!

Something was in your engine by the looks of that rod. That's sketchy.
Like I said, I think it was a hairline crack in the head. I drove the car hard for 20k miles, if there was something seriously wrong with it, I'm sure it would have made it self apparent much earlier...especially taking into consideration the fact that I've done 5 track days with it.

        j/k

but in all serious...what was wrong with that E36 that its being parted?
That E36 was hit in the rear really hard, frame damage etc.

Haha, it does indeed. Yeh, I wouldn't have dropped in another m50 anyway. S52 is a tiny bit heavier than the m50 but with the increase in power, I doubt it will be toooo noticeable on the track.

Denis, sorry to see this happened! :(

You're doing to right thing though, make the best of it and S52 FTW. When my buddy blew his M50 he sourced an S50 the same week and we had it in and running in one full day!

Well motor is in and 95% ready. I lost a few bolts and missed some stuff for vacuum lines. I hate it when the little shit disappears!!!!

Agreed, I've always wanted the S52 just at the time I was impatient!

I wish I could have swapped had it done in a weekend but a collection of missing parts has slowed the process a bit.

I also fixed the 5th gear lean issue on the ZF box. I DO NOT recommend doing this WITHOUT the BMW tools. The job is not that difficult it just requires an insane amount of patience...patience that I nearly lost this weekend.

I can't wait to have this thing screamin already.

Here's a few shots of the valvetrain while we replaced the valve cover gaskets:

Here's Andrey wiping the obd2 valve cover down...

Your's truly. Oil pan baffle install, thought it wasn't going to work with the E34 pan but it did!

                    Betty waiting!

                    S52 ftw.

Jake, posing with the donor car. Note that cinder block had to placed there because the front end got a bit too light lol.

                    Mr.Slacker the goofball.

ZF 5th gear lean FIXED...new seal caps. As mentioned in previous post, don't do this without proper BMW tools. You will hate your life.

                    AKG's Double Shear Selector Rod.

Mike doing a brake job on his sister's Volvo...

S52 finally ready to go in

Jake installing 24# injectors into OBDI fuel rail

                    Andrey, offering words of wisdom

                    My sexy ass bald spot.

This was the first time I had attempted to drop in the motor from the top. I honestly couldn't believe it...it took some time but we were able to massage it in with some careful jack placement in the back.

I ended up removing the compressor and the belt tensioner in order to get that extra few inches of clearance. Definitely helped!

I didn't get the chance to take anymore pics but the motor is almost completely wired up and hopefully the next update you'll hear from me is that its ALIVE!

can't wait for black betty to come back to life. That engine was a beast in that e36, I can only imagine how it is in a lighter car.. I think Betty is due for a roll cage.

A few more pics. Haven't had a chance to wrench on it because I've been cleaning up my flooded basement since Saturday/Sunday's rain storm.

As you can see there's not much left! I just need to sort out the deal with the hose coming from valve cover (pvc) to the icv. As well as, fill up motor with oil, install radiator, bleed the slave and then fire it up!!!!
