Long time no update eh guys?
My daily driver, a 99' camry took a dump a few weeks back, leaving me driving the bimmer instead of swapping motors. Sighh...
Camry still isn't on the road, in fact i'm on the hunt for a replacement DD- E46 330ci. Wish me luck.
So progress marches on, finishing up the S50 refresh. Its 95% done.
Once I got the VANOS back on I was a bit afraid that I had missed a spline and wasn't going to get full travel, so I bought an air fitting and used the TIS's method to check the travel. Everything came out A ok!

Threw a quick coat paint on the block

Reinstalled studs that came out with the nuts. To get the nuts free I soaked it all in a product called kano kroil. Its intended for guns, but breaks down rust like nothin else!

I lost my f'n E34 pickup, had to get a new one

New stewart water pump courtesy of our friends at Motorsport Connections, who actually helped stewart develop the pump in their race cars.

One stupid little part I had to replace is the flywheel dowel, I forgot about it when I put the engine on the stand and it got mangled. I used a chisel and hammer to get it out.

On goes the valve cover

I pulled the engine off the stand so I could install the rear main seal and replace the pilot bearing. I rented a puller, but it wouldn't fit. So, I broke the loop off my clutch tool and packed the cavity with grease to get the bearing out.

Put a little RTV around the rear seal, and knock it into place. I hit my damn finger with my hammer and had to finish the job clutching a paper towel so I wouldn't bleed all over the place!

New water pump and pulleys installed

Cleaned the inside of the bell housing of the ZF trans

Oh look, broken pivot. Glad I have another!

Installing the E34 pan turned out to be a job. I couldn't get it to fit down properly. First I thought, maybe its the pickup tube? Ruled that out. Then I noticed this. wtf? Its part of a broken off drain plug. It had to take an hour to drain this thing! :puppy: I knew this wasn't the cause of my issues, but still something i'm glad i caught.

Then it hit me, the problem was the ears on the windage tray. They're hitting the inside of the block and the crank scraper! Zip zip goes the dremel, chopped off a couple of corners and edges, and its all good.

So then I put the pan on, torqued the bolts down....anddd Eff. Stripped one of the ones in the rear main seal plate!
Oh well, thankfully i've got an M6-1 helicoil kit in my toolbox.

FINALLY!

I got my tail lights back from the paint shop. Candied it all, then lightly smoked. Pix on the car soon.

I've gotten lots of new hotness lately too.
