About two months ago I put an ad on Craigslist for some parts. A guy called me back telling me about an e30 (black 1989 325is) he had drove onto a curb destroying the oil pan. He wanted me and my buddy toointoxicated60 to come up and swap pans. Before we got up there he came up with another plan. He purchased two e30s for 600 bucks. One car is an 88 325is automatic and the other is a 90 325i 5-speed. The 88 has a superb body but a blown motor (t-belt snapped). The 90 has a good motor but is rusted to hell. So the good motor has to be swapped into the 88 along with doing a water pump, t-belt swap and auto to manual swap. Picture whores rejoice.

Blown motor in the 88

Exhaust log needed a little persuasion to be separated from the rest of the exhaust. The 23 year old nuts were unbelievably rusted.

Break Time

Blow engine coming out

Finally out

By the time we pulled the blown motor it was late. Off to the bar.
The dude was generous enough to let us crash at his place over night. We woke up early to get a head start. He had to run out to get the keys for the 90 325i so we could bring it back to the garage. In the mean time my buddy and I waited around and took some pics.

Finally got Mr. Bronzit (90 325i) to the garage

Cleaned out the garage to make way for bronzit. Moved blown motor and 88 out. Yes I ate that cold pizza after I took the picture.

Prepping the good engine for removal.

Good m20 out prepping for new t belt and water pump

gasket sealant for water pump. funny name

Old pump and belt

Took a break to take a look at the progress. Two engines pulled but still so much to do.

Back to work

New timing belt and water pump on

Timing belt covers back on

By the time we finished prepping the good engine for installation it was late. Fooling around with the exhaust on both cars cost us a lot of time. We're planning on coming back in two weeks to finish the job so stay tuned.
