yeah, its just the temperature sending unit for the instrument cluster. you can take it out of your factory m20, the brown one. i just ordered one for my car 90 325is and it was like 20 bucks maybe.Leave a comment:

Not trying to jack the thread but is this coolant temp sensor applicable to M50 NV swaps as well?Leave a comment:

If the coolant temp sender thing is still a problem, it should work as long as their is one prong. the one i used is black with one prong and it works fine.Leave a comment:

Got my harness conversion from dave @ markert motor works today, along with the harness covers and the dust shield that goes behind the flywheel, and a set of knock sensors. If all goes as planned the swap should be in the car saturday!Leave a comment:

maybe its a cheap aftermarket sensor? not color coded? it was in the motor when i got it from a 1995 325i m50tu auto.Leave a comment:

All I know is for every swap I've down and e36 I've seen so far, the sensor for the ecu coolant temp is blue.

yeah thats the one thats in there, but is the front sensor thats still in the factory spot supposed to stay there? or be a different sensorLeave a comment:

You want to use the brown sensor from the M20 for the swap. Twists right into the rearward sensor spot on the head.Leave a comment:
