Gloria finally gets her own project thread!

As many of you know, I picked up an 88' 325i convertible, schwarz on Cardinalrot. Brought it home from Boston MA on a trailer.

When I picked it up I was unaware of what to do with it, so decided that my dad should have his own e30, since he's been looking for one for a few years now and couldn't find one he wanted.
Since we picked it up non-running, we got to diagnosing why it wouldn't start. Owner said the motor seized as before it wouldn't start, it had a loud clanking noise coming from the engine, after tightening down the battery cable and it starting, we realized it had a broken rocker which was the cause for the noise, aswell as it needing a fully refreshed head due to worn out valve guides, it blows smoke like a train! For the past few weeks we did nothing but gather some parts together for jobs we should tackle while the head is off and their is access. A new cylinder head was ordered, timing belt, water pump, intake boot, top end gasket set and Head Bolts and a starter.

Which brings us to today, we dropped the car off at the shop and first thing tomorrow morning the work will commence and a checklist will be made for what the car needs, knowing my dad he will go all out and I don't mind it one bit

Well I got work done today, pretty much everything I wanted except for the fact that it took a lot longer than anticipated. Some bolts were more frozen than others and the gas station where my garage is decided to have a false alarm and the fire supression system went off letting off gallons of white powder.
First things first we decided to check the car out and see what needed addressing. Rad support was a bit rotted so we decided to sand it down and hit it with some paint to yield the decay until we can source another support.

LOL, I guess hangers are needed aswell.

Basically every bushing on the suspension needs replacing, but which 23 year old e30 doesn't? Overall the car is pretty sturdy and is a great base.
We pulled the valve cover to verify that the noise we were hearing was indeed a broken rocker and what do you know, there it was, take a look at the cylinder number 5 intake valve.

I was very surprised at the condition of the head, other than the broken rocker, the head was extremely clean without and sludge or deposits anywhere.

Proceeded to pull the head only to be more suprised at the condition of the engine, Cross hatching still visible and everything looks new, popped on the water pump before taking the picture

      Head and manifold, awaiting paint.

Just received a refreshed cylinder head that will be going on next weekend along with other small things. Then car will be registered and daily driven for the time being.

That looks amazing. Did you do anything to the head? 3 angle?

                            P.S.

Head was only refreshed, for now. But dad is getting attached, so we will see how long the modesty will last. The shop is my dads, The boss is nice enough to let him use it once in a while, but I'm prohibited since everytime I bring my car in, it stays there for a while

Update from this weekend. Dropped the head on and had everything bolted on only to forget to put the oil return tube in:hitler: Had to take the manifold back off to get it in.

Brand new timing belt and tensioner:D

She runs! Albeit needs a valve adjustment, but man is it smooth, I forgot just how awesome the M20 is.

Also dropped in new hood and trunk shocks as I got hit in the head earlier with the trunk, man was that fun.
