    My 1984 325e build

Hello everyone let me start by introducing myself. My name is nick and im 19 years old. this is my first car rebuilt every. im learning everything along the way and luckily have some pretty knowledgeable friends and family to help me out. i dont have a garage to work in but i have plenty of tools and i live in the south east unites stated so the only weather factor is rain lol.

I will be keeping the eta block and slapping on a 885 head. Im also considering some sort of stroke build as well. the car will be boosted. Im looking to get around 300whp off the bat with room for one one day reaching over 400whp. the car will be a track only car until i get it where i want it then it will be registered and be a track/weekend warrior car. I will be putting in a z3 rack steering rack most likely keeping it 4 lug and just upgrading breaks. The rear end i was told is fine to keep in but i will be swapping in an lsd.

This Wednesday i will be stripping the whole interior and alsl continuring on sanding and paint. I will be putting in a full roll cage as well. I will be keeping power steering, power windows, and a/c everything else is going. i might possibly keep the radio as well but im not sure yet, if i do it will be after market head unit and speakers and tweeters.

Eventually i will have the car professionally painted but for now im doing it myself 1.) to learn and 2.) because its an eye sore and i want it to look nicer while saving time and money. I want to go with a white an gold theme, gild wheels, white paint, white painted interior and gold roll cage, ill also be painting the engine bay gold even though some will probably disapprove of that its my car and im building it for me =p

As far as the transmission i will freshen it up a bit and put in a new clutch and fly wheel and a short shifter other then that i was told its fine. I think ill probably get a custom made exhuast. im not sure what turbo to use, i was told a holset or a Garret. still haven't decided yet

the car will be autox-ed, drifted, dragged and anything else i can get into. if anyone has an questions, comments, suggestions, tips advice ANYTHING please post. I will try to update the thread AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE adding as many pictures and videos as i can along the way to keep you guys entertained. I plan on joining the marines so basic should be the only time i go weeks without updates =/. I will be dropping every penny i have into this car. stupid money imo but it will be worth it. One thing im SET on having is that CF dash i see around thats like 1500 bucks.. IDC i want one! lol. I hope that you all stick through this with me and hopefully when its all said and done its something everyone will be as proud as me at and hopefully happy with the result. I have an image in my head and it looks beautiful =)

I have a lot more research to do and reading and learning and i hope you guys all help me and take the time to go through my stupidity to reach an amazing end result.

I will post a few pics of my 4 door E30 i had in Germany and my DD just to get a few pics in here. Ill also post a the few pics i have of the project right now as well. Forgive some of the pics quality its taken on super shitty phone, ill try to take the rest with the cameras. Ill take more of the engine interior and exterior before during and after Wednesday and Thursdays. those days will always be when the most work is done as there my only days off =/

as promised, the Germany car <3 =) i miss it

Just take out the sunroof cassette and then put in a blank carbon fiber plug from ebay.

The rubbery plastic peices around my bumpers are faded and in the worst condtion. I want to replace them, is it possible to buy them new? or no? also i kinda want to convert to plastic bumpers and ger rib of the chrome. I hate chrome and i think it lookes clear. How do i go about that? =/

Also just an update, I met a guy who sells 885 heads with upgraded rocker arms and ports and polishes them and also will grind my cam for me. I think im going to buy one of his heads soon.

And tommorow is the first day wehen i actually have more then maybe an hour or so to work on the car. Im going to wake up early maybe go to the gyl then its home to fuck shit up, im stripping the whole interior of the car and contiunueing sanding. Well see what else comes up along the way =)

I'd say hold out for euro bumpers. I did however replace my wavy plastic surrounds with straight ones off an 87. Takes like 10 minutes and they look good if you paint them.

I really want a fully build motor, are there after market valves and springs and stuff? also what cams do you guys recomend i use? i was told to use ground down 272 cams but i was thinking more about 280 cams. Someone said 288 but i think i would like to come more in the middle. I dont care if it takes longer to build i really would like an all out monster here.

                        Hi Nick,

Performance valve springs for you application would be a step in the wrong direction. Just because performance does not mean better. A stiffer spring will put more pressure from the rocker to the cam lobe, this is nice on a performance/race engine where you would experience floating at higher RPMS. The opposite side to this is that because you're putting more pressure on the cam/rocker they will inherently wear faster (as it is planned to do an engine rebuild every so often).

In the politest way possible, I'd suggest learning more about how the engine works in general (and the M20 in particular), and what your true goals are.

It sounds like you're in Southern California which is nice because there are many shops and enthusiasts that will be relatively next door.

thanks for giving me the advise and the the answers to my questions. im going to keep the head relatively stock just some machine work and the upgraded rocker arms. Also im going to keep the bottom end stock like everyone else said. now what about a HG? should i buy the one from ireland racing or just replace it with a new OEM one? now its on the the ecu this will probably be the hardest part for me and the most confusing. also if i get a stand alone wich i want to do, can i get rid of the stock ecu??

                            little update:

little rust hole easy fix though so far the only one and ive been looking so thats good news!
