Hmmm yea I guess I wasn't aware of how strict the CA emissions were...so I guess I'd be looking for an obd1 midpipe to fabricate.

If things don't fall together I won't be too worried about finding 'somebody' to pass me. I dont' see myself selling this car in the near future, if I do, I can worry about it then.

Thanks for shedding some light though 2man, I didn't even know.

Get a PO Box in forestville. Register the car there, you'll never have to smog it.

I do this with all my cars at my house in Geurneville.

Today's top gear top tip: Next time you are using an engine hoist and a load leveler, mount the leveler running fore to aft, instead of side to side.

;) Was wondering if someone was going to say this. Really though, as long as your paying attention its not that big of a deal.

To OP, car looks awesome! Jealous you have an s52 swapped e30. What part of the Bay Area you from? As for all the smog issues, trust me in this area there are sooooo many retarded Smog Techs that have no idea of what to look for (seems like they just hand out Smog License's to anyone) you should be fine (if you need a source, LMK). Most are DUMA's and just check off that everything is present and everything passes, so as long as your car can pass the sniffer (and cats are present) you should be fine. You could do what Sully said and register the car out of state (somewhere like Minnesota) to a PO BOX and then have the PO BOX forward to your California address and you will be worry free (know allot of JDM guys who do this with there R33 and 34's) If you ever plan to sell your car, LMK I might be down to pick it up. Love the color and the early model look. :)

Thanks for the tips guys, I'll look into a PO box, but honestly probably won't even go that far.

Weird thing about the load leveler--it actually worked better for me side to side like that. Once the engine was hoisted off the engine mounts, it naturally cocked itself at the perfect angle for it and the transmission to slide out. Then with the leveler how it was, I was able to maneuver the power steering pump around the condensor. Wasn't how I intended to mount the leveler either, but it all worked out.

So I opted to shave my e34 pan and use smaller oil pan bolts where it bolts up to the rear main seal plate...snapped a bolt off because I neglected to chase the threads of all the metal shavings in there. Rookie mistake. Then blew it even more by snapping the easy off into the bolt, then mangled it beyond repair, so now I'm just getting a new rear main seal plate. At least it happened on the plate instead of the block right? So in the down time I got my wiring harness all made up. Used a harness from a 93 525 to a 4/87 325is c101 Took me a few days but I have everything triple checked and think it's correct.

                      Was unsure of:
                      c101-------color------------funtion-----------x20----color
                      pin 12-----brown-----------CEL--------------pin 8---gray
                      pin 16-----white/black-----diagnostic-------pin 17--white/violet

                      Seem right?

And now that I've undone part of the oil pan gasket I'll probably throw a new one on there to avoid any issues. One time use sort of thing right?

Did some suspension maintenance on the front end while I'm waiting for my new crank seal plate to get here. Outer ball joints had torn boots on both the control arms.

boot's completely gone on this one because I torched it to get it out

new control arms and THR bushings

                        new end links

                        installed

made sense of all the wiring harness and cleaned it up a bit

cleaned up the 260, got new tob, slave cylinder

pretty ghetto heat shielding because my old one fell apart, should function though

                        new pilot

Didnt bother with the tie rods or the the sway bar bushings because they looked like they'd been replaced recently.

Almost every injector had a bad pintle so I got a rebuild kit.

                          all done

rear main seal plate finally came so rtv'd up the block on both sides of the gasket and put the pan back on

                          engine in

e34 harness starting to go in

cut the wiring harness guide a little bit to make it fit better

                          little bit further

Got all the power steering lines hooked up as well, tranny brace is all bolted up. Still need to put my new csb in and hook up the guibo. And still need to get an m20 temp sensor, then I can throw the manifold on.

                            oils

ran all the coolant, vacuum, and fuel lines, and threw the manifold on

started up after a few tries and haggling with the engine ground. I had no problem with clearance with the racelands I'm using, the short ones.

                              replaced csb

what is this shifter carrier? uuc?

can see the headers lined up, also white325is' tranny mount

this is some high flow cat mid pipe that came extra with the car when I bought it. I hacked off the downpipe and will tac it up to the raceland downpipes

for now I'm just gonna bolt it up to the stock exhaust, which is new old stock

                              adaptors
