Well, I originally saw this thing in August just after I finished the M42 Swap into my Brilliantrot Touring(unfortunately). I asked him if he wanted to sell the wheels, he said 'No, I wanna sell it as a whole. Touring's in this good a condition are getting hard to come by', and he's very right. I stopped by again 2 weeks later, same answer. He wanted €500 for the whole car, I had no $$$ at the time.
So I saw it sitting in the same spot about (2) weeks ago over x-mas vacation. Asked him again if he wanted to sell the wheels, got the same answer. So I decided to take a closer look at it and asked for the keys. First thing I did was check the diff as I intended to buy it just to part it. What do I see but a dry-on-the-outside 4.27 LSD. The interior is also very clean, seat belts work very well with little wear. At 200k km(125k mi) I was expecting the m40 to sound like shit. I threw a batt in it, and started it up to hear The smoothest M40 I have heard. In the glovebox, was the factory service book with all stamps from BMW. Nothing written or scribbled from independent shops.
Took it for a test drive and was pleasantly surprised. The motor felt strong and was very quiet, the trans was silent & shifted smoothly w/o the typical spoon in the spaghetti shifter, and the diff was smooth and quiet as well. The ABS also works, as does the HYDRAULIC HEADLAMP DIP!!!! These f'in things never work, but this one does. I was floored. As a bonus, the sunroof/frame isn't rusty and doesn't leak. The rear hatch has one spec of rust on the OUTside due to a paint fleck. These things usually rot out from the inside form a leaky rear window washer hose(common malady in the Touring).
So I offered him €400, and he reluctantly took it. I think b/c I had already bullshit with him for hours about E30's and he understood that I would appreciate this car and not part it.
