big update! It took us weeks to get the body straight and sorted out but after countless hours of sanding and blocking, we finally got some primer on it! its cool to see it one color. we still need to block this primer, take the engine out, sand all of the bay, more primer on everything, THEN we can actually put some paint on it.

      "Chop Top"

Personally I always felt that someone would one day finally give those cars a chop top. Which is popular on old school hot rods.

Please take your engine to Tim at Morgans Machine shop in Walnut Creek. It is well worth the drive, I can not recommend those guys enough. Tell Chris at the front desk that Jeremy with the 2002 sent you. He will know.
This guy can build anything from a Ferrari motor to American V8 or bike motor. He will take his time to talk you through what you are doing, and treat you well. 1 (925) 939-7346
When he worked on the m20 for my 2002 he caught some stuff that I know other people would have missed.

i thought about doing a chop on it, i even mapped it out with my dad ( hes a structural tech) it would look cool but its a lot more work that dosnt really need to be done, molding the flares and air dam have taken long enough already

I would recommend you do a bunch of research before you go and talk to anyone about building a motor so you at least know your basics. It will be easier for them, and you will know whats up and wont get ripped off by any conman.
I also recommend you get a ball park game plan of what you want from your motor, and what parts you want to use in it. Then go talk to Tim and let him know about your plans. He will then most likely talk you out of some stuff and talk you into doing other stuff. Hes a smart guy. Ask him what parts he can supply for you and what you should get your self. He can usually get stuff like valve guides made and stuff like that, but you will have to get the larger things like pistons and cams and so on.
How ever if you are having some one build a motor for you and they are doing all the work p repair to spend at least 4k. I spent about $500 just on the head work for my m20 and I had already done all porting, polishing, and much of the cleaning my self. Then you figure in the price of all the parts rockers ($80-$100), valves ($64-$80), springs ($115~), retainers ($50), seals, cam ($200-$500), valve guides, head studs (ARP are $200 +/-). So you can see things start to add up fast and before you know it you have spent a few grand just on the head.

I've easily got over 3 times what I paid for my 2002 in the engine alone. Take what you planning to spend and double it.
