few updates to get caught up on.
first - wheels are back from paint.

second - have a couple minor parts to install. had a new passenger mirror housing painted while the wheels were getting done, old one had some corrosion bubbling under the paint. also have to install a new passenger side front turn signal housing.
i'm also in the process of collecting parts so i can swap in the powdercoated rear subframe i've got sitting in my basement. bushings, brake lines, etc.
doing pads, rotors and painting the calipers at some point this summer as well.
i'll be getting tires and mounting the wheels in the next couple weeks, i'll take some good pics and post them up when they're on. :)Leave a comment:

a quick recap of the relatively uneventful last couple weeks:
levent scored a cardinal door handle plug from germany for me.

it was rainy and pretty cool most of the time so i didn't drive the car much, and it stayed under the cover. i came out a week ago to find a gigantic ant colony crawling throughout the entire exterior window trim - like horror movie status. i removed the trim and cleaned it all out, and luckily they didn't appear to make it inside the car. replaced the trim a couple days ago and while running errands this morning (parked the car in a hot parking lot) i came back out to the side of the car covered in ants again - must have been some inside the cavities of the car and the heat flushed 'em out.
blasted the ones i could see out at the car wash and found some more under the door sill upon further inspection. RAID took care of the rest - little bastards. hopefully they're gone for good now.
last week i also stopped by my body guy's shop to get a quote on painting the wheels and my passenger side mirror. he's ready for me, but i still need to finish sandblasting 2 wheels + 2 covers, so this morning i took everything out of the basement for inventory and cleaning. i also chose a paint color while i was there and decided to get the centers done in the same color as the lips & covers.
scrubbed several decades worth of brake dust off the cooling fins - one needs a small crack welded.

cleaned up the hardware.

one of the sandblasted wheels & covers.

and i discovered one of the front wheels is cast, as opposed to the other 3 that are forged. :(
i've waited so long to get these together and on the car i don't know if i can bear to try to search out a single forged front wheel, so i may just move ahead with the paint and run em this year, then try to find the replacement over the winter.

hopefully i can get this stuff to paint in the next 2 weeks, because my wife and i just bought a house and we'll be moving all next month.
that's all for now. :)Leave a comment:

weather was awesome yesterday so i cut outta work a bit early and worked on a few car projects. nothing really worth taking pics of, but here's a brief rundown:
- replaced hood roundel - whoa!
- replaced hood release cable - this job was a bitch. everything works properly again so i bolted the lever in place and put all the lower dash covers back on finally.
- one of the new to me cardinal door panels was ripped slightly, so i bought a full set (dude wouldnt split) for the clean driver's panel. i'll be selling the second set shortly - complete and overall very nice, barring the minorly ripped one i took out of my car. the new panel is pretty de-laminated unfortunately, so i may take it to an upholstery shop sometime over the winter to get the seams glued back down.
- replaced all broken/missing clips on the door panels while i was as it.
- quick interior vacuum and exterior detail for this morning's cars n- coffee meet.Leave a comment:

thanks gavin - lookin forward to seeing your new wheels mounted man.
thanks dude.
does it look like i'm not on a budget, ha? take your time, plan things out and do it the right way the first time. my progress has taken place over an almost 4 year period, it just looks faster when it's condensed in a 3-page thread.Your killin me Smalls! Donchya know I'm on a budget??
You can't keep creating cars this sweet and inspire teh n00bs like you have been doing! :-P
I seriously love seeing other rides that exemplify how my e30 will look in the future. I personally say the red cards are a little much, but it still looks sweet!
the red seats/panels/carpet came as a stock combo in certain cars, not mine obviously, but i love the whole thing - especially the door panels.
