The good the bad and the ugly

Definitely posted in the wrong forum.

Ive had this 89 for about 9 months.

Ive done a lot of work on it. Its always run fairly strong but early in its life the motor mount seperated, and killed the guibo.

So I did a bunch of work on it replaced the stereo etc heres a pic of it close to as I got it.

    205 k miles when i got it

basically did not do much to change its apearance and drove it for 10k miles.

2 body panels, always planned to get 2 new ones but I ended up moving to a rural place where e30s arent in junkyards

also the front was converted to plastic bumper with a body kit, unpainted. several missing lights int he front, no fogs.

horrible peeling clearcoat on the back.

You might want to remove the old diving board covers on the front so the replica mtech2 bumper would look less out of place. Good luck on your project and I look forward to see your progress.

this is the coffee holder. I put it in a place that blocks the glove box from opening unless i close it.

          hey thanks so much.

Please give me about 5 posts to get more pictures up Im not caught up yet.

However thanks for that. Ive taken the front kit off now and painted it, and were looking into how it goes back on, because it was just held on with bolts.

anyhow let me finish putting more pics up. I havent taken pics in a bit on the car.

this is before the buffing with the rustoleum fender. I like the color, so I went to paint the kit the same color. I dont like how the finish is, but I buffed it.

In general, the paint on this car is unfixable. But I decided to fix it anyway im not sure just started ordering crap. the interior is nice.

Ive gone over the whole body with polishing compound, and started to try to strip the paint off the hood.

The hood isnt going to be painted in rustoleum, I decided just to paint it with black primer. but getting the old paint off has become a pain.

so Im gonna take more pictures of the outside once i put the glaze and wax on, and itll look decent.

This is not a full restoration. Theres really not a smart way to save this paint. It has a really bad clear coat on the respray.

This is just trying to get it looking decent for a while til I find the front body parts in a junkyard.

              Better pictures are upcoming.
Im not sure why I just havent felt like taking a lot of pictures.

I just did a really great maintenance weekend with

              5 quarts of synth oil

              2 quarts redline mt 90

              4 new hoses,

              new coolant.

I still need to do the rear differential. Decided the psteering and the brake fluid was clean so just topped it off.., so very soon its going to be all fresh fluid.

Nothing feels better than that lol.
I got a touch retarded lazy with the motor mounts and i just replaced the bad one. I still need to put the other new one in before it goes back to daily driver because im lopsided. I still have an exhaust hanger i need to put in

I havent posted too many pictures but I have done a few things. nothing is as coola as the new shift boot. I got it with the m stitching just in case I changed in an s14 or an s52 in there.

Also trying out the aluminum shift knob. Its sort of rose colored so it doesnt match anything. It kind of looks good with the coffee cup though.

Does anyone like it or go back to the stock? I know from experience it gets hotter than hell in the summer. I love it when its freezing out though.

I have a stock this aluminum one i snagged from a 85 318 i saw in a junkyard, and i also have the 300zx knob but its in use now in my truck i can switch that one and this one but not the bmw plastic to the truck.

You are right actually. not quite obscene but suggestive.

Well Im actually covering the stock shift knob with leather right now. When thats ready it will be more relevant.

For now its the aluminum one with the bumps or nothing. I just wanted to hear if i needed to hurry on the leather one.

                          that leather boot btw,

17$ shipped from topgaiters. Its thick and awesome. I dont know why, but it looks better with a metal knob. It is just the contrast of quality leather, to metal.

The contrast of the leather, to the platic textured like leather looked wrong to me. . The old oem shift boot is also plastic and it works better.

No offense to the million people rocking the oem plastic knob im just done with it.

ive done a lot of work but until i get the paint off the hood it still looks kind of ghetto. Improved but.

And the paint has somehow survived an entire can of auto paint stripper. it is the delphin paint that would not die.

                            starting to look very sexy.

Getting to be time to paint the front body kit red.

finally got the parts in a junkyard.

from another 89 zinno vert in moss landing pick n pull

there were a few more parts I should have snagged off it but by the time I got that hood off and the fender i was done with hanging out in the hot dusty junkyard.

carrying that hood across the yard was my own personal olympics and i did scratch it up.
