So for today's update I thought it'd be cool to switch things up a bit and make a video rather than take photos. I got the front fender welded in place and I'm pretty happy with the results. Now it's just time to grind the welds down, smooth it out with some filler and it'll be good to go! Watch in 1080p for best quality.

kind of a dinky update, just want to show that this build is still alive.
Started off yesterday by gathering my swaybar linkage hardware/bushings that I pieced together a few weeks ago:

Got them all greased up and tightened down:

And then I had a weird urge to get started on the front fender, so I bolted it up and said my last goodbyes:

Then started chopping:

Just to give you an idea of how the 15x8 et0 lines up with the original fender (with the lip cut off). This tells me that I won't need too big of a spacer to get the fitment I'm going for:

This was as far as I got, although it doesn't really look much different, this is the result of a few hours worth of mocking up, making measurements (which were mostly made by eye) and cutting little by little until I got the desired amount cut out. It is basically ready for welding now, just need to prep the area. I have some time on Friday to work on the car so that's when the next fender update will be happening:

Also, I made a video last week about my friend Shea's 1972 BMW Bavaria and the work we did to it one day. It's a temporary situation as it's going on air soon but the car turned out awesome. Plus, I got a PM from the dudes at StanceWorks and they wanted to feature it on their main blog page! I was super hyped on that, and felt honored to have my work on their front page. Not sure if you guys have seen it or not, but here it is, watch in 1080p!

Thanks man, his build was a huge inspiration for me as well. This is my first "classic", definitely the oldest car I've ever owned, and I've only gotten to drive it once. I can't wait to drive this thing again, and I agree they are really fun because they are simple and have so much character. Love your e30 in your sig by the way.Leave a comment:

Love the build dude! I'm following your thread on SW too. It might be weird but heist's and your build thread really makes me want to get back into the classic car scene. Its just so much fun. You guys always remind me of that.Leave a comment:

That sounds so funThe waves are typically fair to good. It gets consistently good in the fall/winter but summer swells bring in some fun waves too. I like to surf Newport or further south, it just depends on my schedule and if I have 3 hours to kill minimum.
I surfed 7 hours last saturday. Epic peeling A-framed lefts were hitting so hard off the balboa peninsula that day.
thank you!Leave a comment:

wow, excellent build! I am not normally a fan of flared 02s but the VW flares look at home.

I'm a bit jealous of this, I live a bit north of you, more central coast CA. I grew up in the Pismo Beach area and there really aren't that many car people here. We have a huge car show here every year which mainly consists of american classics, which is cool too, just not my taste really. Other than that, there's not much. I've actually never been to Huntington, are there any good waves down there?Leave a comment:

Huntington Beach is a damn good starting point to a real Southern California adventure. There are some seriously interesting car people here who you benefit greatly from knowing and utilizing as resources if the need ever arose.
If you need a room, I would happily oblige to your requests, most of them anyways. I reserve a few requests strictly for my girl.
PM is coming.Leave a comment:

There is one condition. If I ever need a room in "Surf City," you and I are spooning :giggle:Leave a comment:

Either way it would be cool, I think you should keep the '02 as a street car though and just enjoy it and gut an E30 as a track car. I'm considering LSD for my '02, if I find an affordable one I might jump on it. Sounds like whatever you do will be cool though.Stock m10 with e21 5 speed and LSD from my newly acquired 320is, or balls out 2.5l s14 swap. Finding a suitable s14 to build is not very easy unfortunately. But if I go s14, the entire build changes and I will track the car. I have a hunch that I should just restore it with a few tasteful parts, seperately build another purposeful fast car, and have each shine in their own light. Nothing is set in stone yet and the funds are there to make each idea into a reality.Leave a comment:
