    TypeRated's Turbo '89 325is Build

Hey everybody! A little intro, my name's Brad, originally from Huntsville, AL, but I currently live in middle TN where I attend school. I'm a BMW enthusiast, although I've been out of the scene for a good while. I've owned quite a few Bimmers over the years... a few E30s, a few E21s, including a Callaway car, a E36 M3, a Euro E23, and a E39 touring. I acquired this '89 325is from a friend of mine a couple of months ago in a trade. It had been used as a parts car until my buddy decided to put a fresh drivetrain back in it. That being said, it's devoid of the interior with the exception of the front sport seats and dash. I was actually put off by the car at first, but after I saw how well it ran & drove I knew it needed a proper build. It's going to be a kind of drawn out build since I live 2hrs away from my shop now and can only wrench on the weekends. Goals: 400rwhp and < 2300lbs
    The parts list so far:
    Turbo setup (from straight6's car)
    Holset HX35/HX40 hybrid w/ 16cm H1C housing
    Dan Pinder equal length manifold
    3" downpipe
    Tial 38mm wastegate
    21x9x2.75 Intercooler
    2.5" charge piping
    HKS SSQV knock-off BOV

    Wheels & Supsension
    15x7 ET25 Kosei K1's
    205/55R15 Yokohama S.drives
    H&R Race Springs
    Bilstein Sports

    Weight Reduction
No interior except front seats & dash
    No A/C or heater
    Flat carbon door panels
Carbon plates for Radio, OBC, HVAC
    All tar removed
Spare tire well removed (carbon filler plate)
Carbon floor drainplugs & firewall plugs
    Lightweight battery

    * Still Need To Purchase *
    PNP Megasquirt from whodwho
    60lb injectors
    ARP head studs
    Clutch - Brand??
    3" exhaust
    Aux gauges
    Wideband
    Feed, drain, & cooler lines

I'm sure I've left out some odds and ends. Anyway, onto the pics:
Only photo I currently have of the car

    Turbo stuffs :pimp:

I like the tire selection 205/55/15 on a 15x7, they are gonna look meaty as hell once you mount them, now put away the keyboard and get to work...

They should fit nicely and look choice, but traction will be an issue. We'll see how these work out. I may look into putting 215s or 225s later on. I'm heading home next weekend and getting started. My Bilsteins should be in this week too.

I'm considering a Spec, but I've heard hit or miss things about 'em. That being said, I had a Stage 3 and their aluminum flywheel in my 396rwhp LS1 Trans Am. I beat the snot out of it never had a single issue.

I'm in the process of gathering parts and everything to do a turbo motor. I'll be watching this closely to see how it unfolds. I'm thinkin of running the same turbo you have so keep up the posts.
Don't worry I'm working on Jparkr's Pro3 in this picture.
