    Project Renae (Pic Heavy)

    E30 Project Renae - 1991 318is -> 1991 330is

Renae: In German, the name Renae means- to be born again.

Renae is a local car I picked up a few weeks ago for $250. This car was originally posted up for sale here on the forums for $900

By the time I found her the profile gasket had been long gone and the oil was like Nestle Quik. Missing rear passenger side brake and axle, interior raped, wheels swapped to steelies, cracked bumper swapped on. It looks like the PO attempted a complete cooling system overhaul to fix the issue unsuccessfully.

    Previous Owner's Picture

    PHASE 1: The Breakdown

    Tuesday 9/25/2012 - Exterior Body

The body has a few nickel and dime dings and some previous attempts to fix some larger dents. Most of the damage is on the rear driver quarter panel, driver side lower valance and middle of the trunk. Very mild but I want this car to be perfect when its repainted so I will not be attempting to do any body work myself and leave that up to the pros. (Please ignore the stupid dates printed on the pictures.. had to use a POS Nikon Coolpix until I get my Canon back.)

    Tuesday 9/25/2012 - Engine Bay

The engine bay was much cleaner (and complete) than I had expected. Lots of newer cooling system parts to pawn off to fund the project. The car actually still started up and would idle. But this powerplant just will not do so everything was pulled to make it nice and clean again.

    Tuesday 9/25/2012 - Interior

Nothing special here. Interior gutted out, no rust anywhere. Floorboards looked new. Should make for easy rewireing. Just about everything in there is going straight to the dump.

Geez, it looks like your car exploded! What did you use to clean the engine bay?

I want this much time to mess with my car. :(

When you say rewire, what do you mean exactly? I'm debating replacing the whole body harness in my car.
Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

I use Proforce branded purple degreaser which is basically Castrol Super Clean rebranded for sale at Sam's Club. Works just as good at $7/gal instead of $14-20/gal.

No, the M42 is in pieces and its core rests at the junk yard now. This is going to get something very special.

Rewiring mainly the stereo but also looking to solder in a good connector for the fuse box so future ease of removal is possible.

this is a very interesting idea. i'm in the middle of swapping an entire harness into my car and it's a huge pain to pull all the body wiring through the firewall. color me interested in your progress. also..

Sunday 9/30/2012 - Engine Bay Prep

Got some time in today to strip the globs of seam sealer in the most visible spots of the engine bay and cut out the radiator core support to prep for modification.

There are some small spots that will need to be welded in before I can skim out the imperfections.
