Picked up a project car from a friend of mine this weekend for $500.
Car: 1986 325eS
2.93LSD
5speed
2.7L M20B27
Pros:
Runs and Drives
No noises
No leaks
Sports Seats leather is in good shape
eS front valence still in good shape (hard to find)
Sport OBC works
No Rust
Cons:
paint isnt perfect
body isnt perfect
Odometer stopped working
hood latch broken
My plans for this car are pretty simple for now as I plan to just daily drive it right now while I go through and redo something on the MINI (new suspension, control arms, wheels, engine). It appears the hood, passenger fender, and trunk lid have some dents and peeling in them so I have located the parts at local JYs. Since I will be in Utah all week this will happen when I return. The car is then going to be vinyl wrapped in some nice 3M (aiming for an interlagos blue) as I have a friend who will do it parts and labor for $700 (which is definitely cheaper than paint). I have emailed the local rep at Megan Racing about a set of coilovers for the E30 as they make kits with custom springs rates and spring lengths plus are local to Socal - They will also do the welding of the spindle/hub.
The list I have come up with of things I am going to be fixing or working on is as follows:
OEM Replacement:
Replace Pass. Fender
Replace Hood
Replace Deck Lid
Replace eS Deck spoiler
Replace Hood Release
Replace Interior Light
Replace eS Cluster/Odometer
Upgrade:
Megan Coilovers
US Ellipsoid Headlights
IE Short Shift Kit
ESM-002R 16x8/9
Thats about it for now, I am just going to leave the engine stock for the time being but eventually looking at an M50 or an S50 just going to keep my eyes open for a good deal.
