    Wakdog's Alpine II 24v

Thought I would throw together a build thread seeing as this car is taking on alot more work than I imagined it would (bought as a daily to do nothing to )

Bought the car in July 2011 and then drove it 1000km (600 Miles) home in 12hrs.

    As I bought it:

    1990 325i (originally automatic)
    1990 M50B25 Non-Vanos
    Getrag 250 gearbox
    3.91 LSD
Bilstein HD w/ Eibach Pro Kit
    Shitty Wheels with oversize tires
iS lip and Mtech1 rear spoiler
    iS Interior

    What I didnt realise until i hit the highway heading home (about 15km into my 1000km journey), was that a 3.91:1 diff and a 1:1 5th gear = ~3700rpm @ 100km/h (62mph)....

This was the first thing changed - pulled a 3.15:1 Crownwheel/Pinion from a 325e and threw it into the LSD I had. Much nicer to drive every day :)

Threw on some Bottlecaps while i looked around for some wheels

Picked up some ESM 008 Staggered for about the value of the brand new tires on them:

Wasnt really a fan of these and they were replaced rather quickly by a set of 15x8 +10 Schmidt Modern Lines:

    Then this happened:

(as you can probably tell by now, im a bit of a wheel whore...)

Got some IE stg3 Springs and new Billy Sports before I put the wheels on (16x9/7.5 Staggered Borbet A):

I wanted to get the front of the car a bit lower than it was, so I ended up buying a set of GE Coils from Nigel along with a pair of IE camber plates.

Combined these with 2inch sectioned front struts and IX Bilsteins and I was loving it:

Now I had spotted some cheap sets of BBS RS in Japan just asking for a refurb, so I purchased a set of RS101 15x7 +38:

    Which turned into this:

    15x8.5 +18 with 2" Lips and 15x9 +12 with 2.5" Lips.

    Finished product with 205/50R15:

    90 318i M62B44 OBD1
    02 530i Touring (Airlift 3P)

This brings me to where the car is now.

I picked up a pair of M50B20 cams (and a set of 60k km lifters) after hearing a bit of info pointing to them being a bit more aggressive than B25 cams.

Went ahead with the cam install but upon getting it all back together and turning it over, the chain tensioner guide rail on the exhaust side snapped and caused the exhast camshaft to basically sit still while the pistons banged into the valves (until the cam regained tension) which lead to 12 bent exhaust valves :(

Pulled the head and was now looking at the best way to fix it...

    A) Junkyard replacement motor

    B) 12 new valves and replace all chain/tensioner items

    C) Fuck it all, go buy a 2.8L block and rebuild the head.

    (chose C....)

Now Im just waiting on parts from overseas (24 new lifters, all new chains, tensioners, guides, reco'd pink top injectors)

Already have ARP Rod bolt kit and Head stud kit (do it once, do it right) ready to go.

End product should be a strong M50B28 with cams that can make power past 7k rpm, with a PnP Megasquirt unit to run it. Also found that the motor had a 68mm (4mm oversize) Throttle Body on it which should help :)

As I get all of the stuff, ill start taking some photos of it going together and the new motor build process.

Your car looks amazing, and sounds like it'll soon have the motivation to match its looks!

I still have them, only issue is they are the only wheels I have that clear my UUC brakes on my track car  ....

Im also looking at maybe offloading these RS for a profit and either going back to the borbets (also have a local that is keen to swap my 7.5" pair for his 9" pair...) , or make some 16" RS...

I do have another pair of RS's on the water from japan atm, 15x6 +40. What this means is I can run a 3.5" lip for 15x9 +2 (rears only - This centre wont clear e30 brakes)

He's not an angry car! He's smiling! Look at that big smiley face!

Every time you step out of your car and look back it's like... "Did I do good?!! Did I do good?!"
