Well we just picked up this 84 318i coupe for our 16 year old son. It is a project in the works at the moment. It has 145k on it and is a 5 speed with a manual sunroof and the remnants of AC.
Now that I know I can post pics, here are some of the rust issues we are addressing. Since it needs to get on the road asap we are foregoing the welder and using adhesive, aluminum, and pop rivets (flame on :-) ). My goal is to get it watertight for the next couple years so it can be a decent DD for my son.
All exposed metal is getting Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator and later on Eastwood's Brushable Seam Sealer.
The interior is in great shape. Here is the pile at the moment.
And one with a bit of gratuitous 80's superbike porn
The little thing runs great. It has a charging issue that we need to sort out, and the battery is moving to the trunk. We had to completely rebuild the crater where the original battery was clinging to the car
One thing I need to find is a new fuse box. The one we have is functional but looks like it is half melted for some reason
Anyways, I will try to keep this updated if anyone is interested in yet another resurrection thread. We are going back to stock with the possible exception of lowering it a tad. My son is already planning his V8 conversion but I think we are going to hold off on that for a bit ;-)
