Yes it is possible to swap an M54 with an automatic into your 316 e30. In my opinion it isn't worth the time or effort it would take BUT........... yes it is possible.

thanks alot mate, whats not worth doin the whole conversion or the auto box, and was thinkig of useing the complet e46 loom is it a big job
