    First e30

Just picked up my first e30 this past weekend:

    1988 325iS
    5 speed coupe

    Good:
-overall pretty clean body, besides banged hood and passenger fender.
-brand new tires on basket weaves
    -working odometer (180k miles)
    -crack free dash
    -minimal rust
    -brand new M shift knob
    -new smoked HID headlights (8k)

    bad:
    -runs rough
    -sputters/lags under acceleration
    -paint is SHOT
-interior seats need work... aren't going up/down and back/forth properly...
    -no stereo
    -cracked tail light
    -stiff gas pedal
    -horn not working
-diving board bumpers just piss me off

Overall, I'm pretty content with the purchase. I've already ordered spark plugs/fuel filter, which hopefully gets it running smoother and stops it from sputtering under acceleration... The horn should work with a new fuse, and WD-40 should loosen up the gas pedal some. Not sure what to do about paint yet and the seats not working correctly yet... Really do wish it was facelifted though... Will probably end up tucking the current bumpers (since it's free)

Any other ideas as to what the sputtering under acceleration could be? If it's not the spark plugs or the fuel filter, I'll probably invest some more time into looking for vacuum leaks and some more cash in some plug wires/cap/rotor

Let me know what you think of the buy!

The paint should come back with a good Buff!

I love the diving Boards! Dont get mad at them!

Do the timing belt if you have no idea when it was done last.

That picture is actually instagrammed... the paint is SHOT. Debating whether to plasti-dip or maaco... (can't justify spending too much on paint when the car was so cheap to begin with)

Timing belt/water pump were done summer 09'

Still debating whether to tuck the bumpers or just source plastic ones altogether... good thing is it's an '88 so the bumpers are bolt-on

Although I do wish it was an '89 just so I wouldn't even have to think about it

easy there. if you verify that the paint is single stage, it absolutely can be buffed back to a shine. do that before any plastidip nonsense, for your cars sake and yours.

          time to change it then

          untucked FTW

Oh wow, you're right. Pretty sure it's single-stage paint. I've never actually owned a car this old that's not base/clear. Time to look into buffing it to shine

Overall, I'm pretty excited for these parts to come in. I tried to go with Bosch as much as possible, with the exception of the spark plug wires.
