mmm that car sounds so good, still running open headers?
Yup still open headers. Kinda funny pulling the car out of the garage after midnight and seeing the lights turn on in people's apartments haha Whole custom 304L stainless steel exhaust to come. I have all the components ready, just need time.
Yea I can't wait for the test drive. Still need to do brakes and rear subframe bushings/diff swap before we can really take it for a drive. Driving it in and out of garage will work for now. At least I get to hear it
It's been a while. There's a lot more done to the car and we're almost there.
Pictures...
Cesar in his element, welding up the middle sections of the exhaust
It's dual 2" merged after the header into a single 2.5" pipe. One 12" Vibrant resonator in the middle, and a Magnaflow muffler at the back, which is going in this week. I helped only by holding pieces in place under the car while Cesar put it together piece by piece. On jack stands. Pretty damn impressive and I love how it came out. He put in two v-band clamps so it'll be easy to disassemble when needed
New bearings/hubs. Needed desperately.
UUC e30 big brake kit. Got an awesome deal on it a while back, plus I've heard great things. Cesar has it on his car and they perform really well. They're Wilwood rotors.
Some recent engine bay shots. Coolant tank is mounted and all the hoses are hooked up/functional
You can kinda see the 16" spal fan through the grills. That's all mounted with Lee's brackets. We're gonna run a separate 30amp relay for it
How the car sits now. And my new headlights
And I'm not even sure if I can link a photobucket video here... It'll be the anticlimactic video ever but it's proof that it drives and I can't stop watching it. This is no muffler
So it drives, but the car shakes over 25 mph. We didn't discover it until the end of the day so we parked the car and Cesar's gonna look at it this week. Other than that, it really just needs the fan wired and the muffler hooked up before it goes back to my garage.
Plans for the winter:
-All rear bushings, install my new diff. Already have the bushings. I went with the Revshift stuff
-Peerless/HK skid plate. Already have it at the house
-Tie rods
-Center console delete/mount window switches on dash with another 12v
-Maybe new seats. Looking at s2000 seats
I'm prob missing some stuff but I'll try and update again at the end of this week
I haven't updated this thread in a while. SO, the s50 that went into the car needs some serious work. I opted to not pull the head off the motor before we put it in the car because I figured it'd be fine/low miles. Turns out the headgasket was completely popped and the motor probably has a lot more miles than the PO stated
Lesson learned.
The largest water jackets in the back of the block are rotted out into where the headgasket needs to seal
A bunch of the water jackets on the head were sealed up with what feels like cement
Cruised around with the e30 for a while.
Now it's back home until I can get another motor for it. I'm working on picking up an s52
As you wish. I didn't even know anyone was following this lol
So the s50 wasn't toast, but I have other plans for it so it's in the corner of the garage.
Found an S52 in Newark within a couple weeks of parking the s50
Added Recaro SRD's with Massive Brakes floor mounts
Had some driveshaft misfortune. I was trying to keep the e30 driveshaft with the ZF but something wasn't working right with my combo.. I ended up just using a 328is driveshaft I had laying around and a stock e36 guibo. Works perfectly now
Got the car back on the road. It has rear bumper trim now..
Brass coolant fittings
I got them because this:
I was around the corner from my house and the fitting that connects the coolant res to the spider hose broke and drained my coolant. I suspect it's partly because I had this plastic fitting on the s50 and it was running really hot at points.
Cesar welded me up some tips so it wouldn't drone so much
The car made it to Bimmerfest.
And made it home!
Winter plans:
-Stewart/EMP metal impeller water pump
-Cooler thermostat
-Cooler fan switch
-New fuel pump/lines/filter
-Revshift swap engine and trans mounts
-HK Fabrication (Peerless) Skid plate
-All rear end bushings and 12mm diff spacer from Revshift
-3.25 LSD
-Finish center console delete (mount window switches and cig lighter)
-Mount DME properly in glove box
-Black rear seat
-m3 harness covers
-Coil and fuel rail covers
I have 90% of what we need to do everything
And a little bit of what I've been distracted with:
Thank you! I'm working on getting it road bound. Then I honestly think it might be for sale haha There's a couple small things I want to do around the house next year and I also want to turbo the s52
