Holy crap paul burk knows a lot about M30s and ive been on the phone with him for 30 minutes. He has changed a few things ill be doing with my engine. -
Well I will begin disassembly this week I'll be using an e36 as my go to car for a bit so I'm going to start on the interior and then the trim then out comes the engine and driveline. Then prep it for stripping.Leave a comment:

So I made a few calls and to have my car stripped down to bare metal including the door jams engine bay and whole exterior I'm looking at about $1,300.00. I'll be Stripping everything off it including the carpet and removing the engine and driveline. I will be saving for a bit for a second car and to pay that as well as building up the engine. That k God for tax season coming lol.Leave a comment:

Thank you and I'll be looking for a bit but I'll still be building the m30 itself just not much will be done to the car till I have the second car. I may wind up getting another random e30 then use it for parts or sell it off to help with getting an ix. We will see how this unfolds. And correct me if I'm wrong but I could go 12.0:1 compression if I wanted to and it still run well on pump gas. Idk if it makes a difference but I always get she'll fuel. I've herd it Dosnt matter then I hear it dose idk.
Oh and side note I'm going to be taking a head class at my local college pretty much so I can use the facilities to port and polish and rebuild my head with some VAC and bimmerheads equipment.Leave a comment:

Good stuff... you'll love it once that M30 is in there, especially with high compression at 3.7L.Leave a comment:

well i have come to the point where i think im going to stop working on my car for a while. I need to save for a second car and ill be looking for a E30 iX. when I have that car I will be stripping my current e30 and send the body off to be media blasted. then ill be able to do all the body work and paint it the way i want. Then i can rebuild it the way I want from ground zero. I do plan on powder coating the control arms and subframs and such. I will make sure that when this thing is done it will be better than when BMW originally built it. I will keep you all posted on the progress.Leave a comment:

Iirc, they have forged rods too just the pistons are cast. I could be wrong though.

Are you planning on going with megasquirt or some other type of standalone? You won't get much out of all that motor work with the Motronic.Leave a comment:

after reading and making a few calls i have decided to bore the block to 95mm with a compression ratio of 10.5:1. supposedly that makes the engine in the 3700cc range. when i took the crank out the rod bearings seemed to have some wear on them but the main bearings seemed damn near pristine. So soon my mechinist will be getting the block and crank and he will let me know on the status of my crank shaft. I hope its usable.Leave a comment:

well the pistons are scared on the skirts a couple pretty deep so im going to get new pistons and bore the block a bit. So my build just got more pricey. ill be dropping a little over a grand on new pistons. i may give it a 94mm bore i think 95mm is the largest most would put this engine at so we will see. Im not too worried about the engine blowing out a cylinder im not going to be going FI at all so i think it will be fine even if i decide to go to 95mm. If you have any suggestions on bore size feel free to let me know.
Also the engine has never been bored before it still has the stock bore size.Leave a comment:

So i will be moving sometime within it seems to be about 3 months so ill be doing less updates on the car. Ill be pulling apart the block for easier transport. But i am mainly working on the body work on the car. Getting the dents out trying to use as little body filler as possible. Surprisingly my car dosnt have many dents or dings. With this being my first time doing body work this will take a while. I do have one pretty deep gash im going to have professionally removed. I will post pics the further i get, between work, school, moving this is going to be a little slow. Just not enough time to invest hrs upon hrs into it right now. I am however still going at it. But come tax season my car will be getting a whole new paint job in Polaris-Metallic. I love the way that looks i uncovered the previous paint job that was the original paint from BMW and WOW is it gorgeous.Leave a comment:
