quick update to catch up before i do more work on this car during the week..

i got the renown 130r motorsport leather and the e30_dad cluster installed.. i can't keep my eyes on the road anymore....

i installed the oem spring pads in the rear, two 10mm stacked and the oem top rubber mount. the bbs still rubbed under anything over 50% throttle. no good. i began thinking of what to do, a lot of ideas in cutting up the chassis came to mind...

but i decided to give the coilovers off of the track car a shot before chopping anything up. i installed the rears first when i was hanging out with grsmonkey at his work.. went on several test hoons and kept dialing in my height, it rarely rubs now, they're 650# springs right now but i'm thinking of upping them to 750#

several days later i attempted to throw the front coilovers on, word of advice, don't use grade 8 stuff on your spindles, one winter will cause it to sieze and it will just shear off when you try to install your coils in the spring time. :| i broke my tap tool trying to use a bolt extractor, ended up grabbing the passenger spindle off of the track car. i also accidentally ripped open the tie rod end too. ugh, these also won't go high enough because of ground controls chopped housings. i'm gonna do oem tubes with koni inserts and gc sleeves sometime in april.

i finally got the bbs on for good & gave the car a good spring cleaning.. once i shadow line and spray some trim paint it'll get a clay&wax. i'm still messing around with ride heights, the rears aren't equal right now. nothing will be final until i get oem konis up front.

    for this week
shadowline & replace pop out seals
    iX rear sway install
    deutsch connector s52 harness

    near future
    e36m tubes w/ koni inserts
front brake pads [pfc z rated]
    vert front sway
    87 iS valance
    trunk floor fab
    possible tint [35%]
    center the shifter

    during summer
driver footwell & floor board rust repair
    hvac box refresh [blower/heater core/gaskets]
    door seals

Yessir SA from the top, no pulling out of the car and throwing it in a vice bs.

They're off a mustang and are PN 8041 1186SPORT. Got em from THMotorsports. I googled a coupon code and were like $201 shipped for the pair.

Same dampers that TCK and GC use on the rear.

Only if I get half of the MT1. What's yours is mine right? ;)

of course! i also think i'm gonna keep the diving boards as is.. just do shadow line trim.

well i got the federals mounted on the bbs and they definitely rub in the rear at my current height, in the front they only hit the footwell which can be simply fixed with a bfh or cut and patch it in flat. i'm not too worried about running these, granted i'm not gonna slam it so i have no problem raising it a bit if it allows me to run meat.

    for the rear:
    • cut out the already rolled/folded up inner arch lip
    • grind the inside as flat as possible & seam seal/undercoat it all
    • install a 10mm rear spring pad on each side
    • cut the center out of two more 10mm pads and stack those on top
    • install the oem upper rear spring pads

this will give me more room for suspension travel into the arch as well as raise the car 23mm which will match the front wheel gap & hopefully eliminate rub.

i will be cutting up the arches & installing my deutsch connectors this weekend. all those rubber parts are on order and should be in around wednesday. i'll refit the gold later in the week, hopefully with success.

    quick refresh
    front - e36m3 ; bilstein sport ; IE3
    rear - 318ti ; koni sa ; IE3
    17x8 et20
    235/40-17 SS-595

not sure on e30 length but they're about 3.5" shorter than the e36 ones. i have IE3 so like 570# progressive

It must be really nice to have such a nice work space, I have a really cramped garage that I have to work in but you do what you gotta do. Great work on both cars and I can't wait to finally see the euro bumpers on there, It's gonna be nice. Are you going to go with a full kit? (Mtech 1)
hahah i've just taken over my parents 4 car garage.. i've got my own small one car struggle at my place lol. i'm trying to get one of my sponsors pesch motorsport to start making mt1 kits, they aren't planning on it anytime soon but i want to change that. i want mt1 soooo bad but can't justify spending oem money on something that'll get rock chipped and scraped up

so i test fit the 235/40 again, but this time at its actual ride height. super happy with the fitment.
i'll probably get 7.5/10mm spring pads from bimmerworld, just to be safe.

spring pads + iX rear bar + konis set firm should be good enough to stop me from rubbing. i wanna try to dial out some rear camber if possible but it might not work out how i'd like.

sold the 215/40 neo gens off the gold mesh. there is no turning back now, 235s or bust!

I hate these DSIIs, about 5 more weeks and I'll be done with them forever.

here are some 235 fitment pics

i also ordered some stuff too; with plans to get it all done later this week..

i got two deutsch 12 pin connectors, one in black to replace my c101 (the c101 only needs 10 wires to be fully connected, no reason to have a bulky c101 that's only half used) & one to place the si thingy in the glove box (the connector won't fit through the oem hole so i'll need a connector to make it fit)
i also got a 4 pin connector to essentially replace the c103 and to route the check engine light to the cluster. and then a 2 pin connector to add the oil level sensor to the check panel. it's time to clean up the sorry excuse of an engine bay that this car has.

ordered the federal tyres as well. 235/40-17 from onlinetires.com

ordered a box of 3m red scuff pads since i am totally out, these are going to be used for shadow line and other 'chrome blackout' (except kidneys). i'd keep it all chrome but my window trim & bumpers are so scratched and beyond polishing.. i think chrome looks better but being black will make it actually, look better.

also grabbing an iX rear bar from a local-ish salvage yard for dirt cheap. [jk, it was too rusty/rotten to sell]

    thanks man!

i used to be all over the slammed stanced whatever cars but it's so much more fun being able to actually drive the car!

i'm excited to get 235s on these super aggressive wheels that nobody says will fit. along with the full condor, IE3s, new konis, and a fresh iX rear bar (and vert front bar eventually) it'll be an awesome budget setup for a daily driver.

i'm glad that i'm at a 'pausing point' on the track car. it feels good to wrench on this thing finally.

i did quite a bit of work on this car over the last week.

finally finished my late model window regulator conversion. words from the wise, you need the rubber track along with the regulator and glass from a late model.

i cleaned up the wiring mess that was underneath the drivers side. turns out the mess wasn't really a mess. the black clip that holds the c302 and the other connector, the studs were rusted off so it was just floating there and made it look like a mess. i removed my 6 button obc harness and began to remove the abs harness but called it a night.

installed the rear konis/rogue rsms. i had to pull out the big beasty lukebox to do this. the car rides soooooo much better. it's nickname has been miley, since it always twerked around. e36m bilsteins are too long for an e30. it is no longer to be called miley.

since the lukebox was out, i cleaned up the trunk wiring situation. i got wire clips for proper cable retention and even make a small aluminum bracket to hold the wires when they come off the battery area.

    before

    after

to do list to keep myself organized
    • iX rear sway, to stiffen up the rear to help prevent 235s from rubbing

    • replace door/pop out window/trunk seals
    • make a trunk floor
    • fix ssk offset
    • clean up s52 wiring
    • 235/40s on gold BBS

    • refinish winter BBS RC090; black w/ gold hardware & 215/45-17 snows
