From what I've heard while i was deciding what sort of welder to get I also wouldn't bother with a gasless mig, especially not for what you are wanting to do. Mig (with gas) or tig would be the way to go.
I've just got a tig welder myself and am learning how to use it, mig would be easier/faster/cheaper for rust repairs though Im sure
