USA has 2.79 which is close enough; the original Final drive in the m70b50 6mt cars is 2.65 (e31 )
It's a pretty clear change in BMW nomenclature in the e38/9 era.
The Rosetta stone for the transition is 1994/95 early e38 740i USA with m60b40 obd1 engines. They have 210mm rear ends like a e32 or 34 v8
The v12 750il e38 only came in obd2 and 215k kompact diff standard.
For 5 series e39 was all kompact (besides for wbs m5)
For 5 series e60 was all kompact (besides for wbs m5)
For 7 series e38 was all kompact (besides for weird early obd1 engine 740)
For 3 series e46 was all kompact (besides for wbs m3)
Kompact differential kept same for e38, e39, e60
E90 brings weird change with deletion of input flange with a giant nut substituted and also weird pinion gear to suit.
I have a e38 v12 daily; it needs lsd miserably. Best option is aftermarket plug and play; Drexler is the best avail.

E30 324d in UK perhaps has a 2.65 188mm.

Well ,,, quite a bit since i posted some info about the car,,
small upgrade,,,
I was worry about the cooling temp,, the engine generates a lot of heat,,, 12 cylinder , lot of friction ,, so i had a custom radiator made for me... payed a fortune,, but the best solution so far i think,,, the temp on water is ok,, but IMO the oiltemp is way to high
oil temp is around 100°c ---- 210°f in normal driving,,, so i will buy me a V8/12 oilhousing with oilcooler output,,,,,,, so the temp can at least go down to 90°c --190°f

the radiator goes down to the bottom of the IS lip
And then i bought some hood louvres,,out of STEEL on ebay
we cutted a hole in the hood,, i stanced the outer ring so the metal plate was flush.. and then point welded it,,,,,,, damned ,,,,lots of force in such a thin metal,, the hood went like bananas,, but the result is impressive ,, even if i say so myself,,, very clean and looks like semi original

Thanks,,, but the radiator is in FRONT,,, of the horizontal frame,,,and from top to bottom of the IS lip,, as high as possible and between main structure frames where the bumbers bolts on ,,, i can measure it,, and tell you the sizeSveinbjörn Hrafnsson
