No. I bought a BMW. That's why I signed up here, to learn and hangout. It just so happens that my other project is a VW, and some people appreciate VWs as well, so I figured I would share it as well

Not a fan of the stance scene or look, but whatever.....your car to do what you want with. I'm hardly a purist, lol. In any case there's actually quite a bit of e21 resources out there, but since it's an older car with an older following it tends to be less on the big forums and more on old-school message boards, smaller forums, etc. Really it's just never been as popular because it was an underwhelming replacement to the 2002 (or so they thought at the time), and we just didn't get that many here in the states....And in truth the e30 does almost everything better than the e21 if you're going for performance. Expect to learn the most from the e21 guys in Europe, it has a much larger following there than it ever did in the US. A lot of good parts from across the pond as well, and not just Germany.

Looks like you have a pretty good starting point there. If you want some ideas, I have a build thread for my e21 (which is admittedly progressing very slowly with two e30 race car projects also ongoing, as well as other cars). It will be progressing more this summer if I get time. It's not going to be stanced or anything, but you may get some insights (or not)....Should be a link in my sig.

Give this guy a chance. I know him and he is a super chill guy, and a mechanic with a job at Tesla Motors development, not just some 18 year old stance fan boy.
If you dont go all R3V on him you might actually get to know a cool guy and maybe even learn a few things your self.

In hindsight I should have just gotten an e30, but now Im attached and want to see cool stuff happen to my e21. I didnt realize it was quirky car. I thought it was like buying an e30, e28, or e36 with an abundance of aftermarket support. The car was in the right place at the right time. I paid 2k for the car, and my friend owned it. it was decently gone through so I knew I could drive it as a dialy, without taking on a big project right away.

The immediate plans are to make the car feel solid. Get the bushings and brakes in. Refresh shifter so i can feel what gear it's in without guessing haha

The next big purchases will be catuned coilovers, a diff, and wheels. In that order. Might take a while to save for all that as I'm saving for my upcoming wedding.

Yup. It's an IS. Recaros, sport steering wheel, LSD, bbs, front spoiler, and comes with 330,xxx miles! A previous owner put in 323 strut housings, bilstien HD struts and eibach springs.

Kind of heresy to say here, but a lot of people think the e21 is more fun to drive than the e30. It's a bit lighter, a bit more tail-happy, and a bit more twitchy. And you don't see them often so they get a bit more looks from people than an e30, if you care about that.

Don't fear, there is actually a good amount of aftermarket support (especially for the M10 engine if you convert it to carb). Or you can sell your M10 to a 2002 racer (I've sold both of my M10s for $300-400), and pick up an M42 for about the same cost (since most e30 guys don't like M42s).

The e21 forum on bimmerforums is reasonably active and has some VERY knowledgeable people on there who post a lot and have really great build threads....check it out as well http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...1975-1983-(E21)
