I plugged up the holes on the side of the trunk, and she's staying dry. Update: car is legal now! I put a full tank of gas in her, raced another Frankenstein 2.7, and dying to put a few miles on.
A few friends were nice enough to let me drive their 24v swapped e30s, and looks like this is the direction I'm going. I'd love to turbo my 2.7i, but N/A power has won me over more so reliability. I think I'm going with an m52/zf combo. Lots of overtime in the next few weeks.
Alright guys, I think my m20 2.7i is on the way out. I started getting this clacking metal on metal noise a few weeks ago that got progressively louder. I tore down the front of the motor and found the tensioner failed. The timing belt walked off toward the cover leaving quite the groove (at least 25% of the belt lost), and found slack in the belt. I threw on another belt and tensioner as a bandaid. I got numerous opinions, and the major rules that I may have had piston/valve contact unfortunately. The e30 is still running for the time being, but now I'm kicking the m52 swap into high gear. I picked up s52 cams, an e34 oil pan, pick up, dipstick tube, m50 intake manifold, and fuel rail for roughly 430$. Tomorrow, I'm pulling the m52 oil pan off to see why the motor lost oil pressure. Hopefully the oil pump nut backed off otherwise a new oil pump will go on.
3 days off work meant E30 24v fun continuing. Got the stock brake booster relocated. Resealed the m52 and cleaned my engine bay. I was getting ready to drop the motor in until I realized I was missing some pressure plate bolts. Hopefully Tuesday or Wednesday this E30 will move.
